240 gallon Plywood tank

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I haven't made the background or made any progress because I have been busy, but I'm going to try to make it this weekend, and then continue to the filter. However it has been over a week with no leaks! So that's always a good thing

Hi all. I'm new to MFK, but part of what I do for a living is waterproofing exterior decks, and tile showers/ tubs. Be very wary of redguard. It's not uncommon for me to get to a job and have to do everything all over because the previous contractor relied on redguard to hold water. It's a great product when used properly, but it is def more involved than painting it on. Not saying anyone did anything wrong here, but usually when it gets a pinhole leak, it spreads quickly. Great tank btw!

Really....lil late don't ya think  Way to scare the kid now that it's finished bro -:irked:

I'm sure it'll be fine and he did his homework and applied it properly - Been holding water for over a week now, strong- AND that was after I believe (2) two pinhole leaks that he addressed - those didn't spread..

Lol like I said. I'm not saying anyone did it wrong. A lot of times redguard is used under tile to make a shower floor waterproof. The thing that usually goes wrong with it is when you trowel down the thinset for the tile, your trowel cuts into it. All I'm gonna say is that a trowel scratching against it isn't too much different than say, a dorsal spike.

I can however, suggest a product for a future build. It's called Duradeck. It's a thick rubber membrane on a vinyl mesh mat. The seams are welded together with a heat gun and the end result is a lot like a thick pool liner. The difference is that it's meant for people to walk on and is super tough against scratching, tearing, and puncture.

I'd say stick with the epoxy / fiberglass & resin / and liquid rubbers for fishtanks IMO - ;)

Thanks for this information but the pinhole leaks I found were not in the redgard but rather the silicone on the glass. I did arround 8 layers of the redgard AND one layer of fiberglass in the corners so it should hold

Update!
I bought all of the stuff for the overflow and started painting the tank and stand. Next I'm gonna pick up some krylon fusion and paint the inside and then I can start the cycle!
