I find it ironic that someone that isn't into labels or names, uses terms such as Kamalaus, Kamfa, and Super Red Dragon to describe his fish. Even going so far as to list some FH fry that you have for sale as Super Red Dragon x Kamfa Paratheraps.
So cichlid names don't matter, but hybrid cichlid names do? Where's the logic in that?
Genus, filial #'s, and/or location aren't important to you because you no longer keep fish where those designations would be applicable. And that's not me knocking people that keep FH's, I'm just sayin ......
And all of that is quite fine by me, but what I don't understand is what you stated in your original post about the so called "know-it-alls" arguing about genus, filial, and collection locations, and stating that it's all irrelevant.
Yes on and on and on and so forth, people....DONT TAKE it so literally that there should be NO names. LOL, but it worked and got people in here. Irrelevant meaning we call it Whatever the Heck we want to call it.
Names like Kamfas, yada yada and Kamfa Paratheraps...NOVELTY names for a novelty hobby. Rocio Octofasciata, or should I say Jack Dempsey for 70% of hobbyist that won't even know its Genus name. Wait a minute there, I meant Nandopsis.....errrr....I ya.....errrr.....Cichlasoma......errr, yeah thats what it is. THINK about how often the hobby name is used instead of the genus name...I agree Jack Dempsey is way more fun to use, lol. Have fun.
Flowerhorn names are irrelevant (name it whatever you want) as well. I've said it many times before that we are using names made up by FH breeders in Asia and they have no scientific credibility. Thats fine, and I can make up names myself too, and so can YOU. Yes, I love Umbeeking's Gorrilaz Black Umbees...Awesome choice of name actually! Chris showed me his video of his expedition and pulling in the Black monster.
I've always thought and despised the Filial (Wild Caught, F1) labels and even locations can be falsely labeled, LONG before I gave up pure breds. But who really gives up anything totally. Don't get me wrong again, there are many legits but also many fakes. I've said it so many times its so redundant, man. I had inquired about more F3 frys from a certain Breeder and he said, a Reputable Vendor bought all of them. So I went to the Vendor's site and they had a NEW listing for Wild Caught frys about the same size as the frys I inquired about. Why would this Vendor buy local F3 when they had access and current sales for WC and said to be IMPORTING all the time? JOKES on all who bought them. Actually theres plenty of blunders for all of us in this bag too Im sure.
If you are bothered by the "know it alls" thingy then you must think that you know it all, lol. It can be anybody actually...it can be the guy arguing with you about a Genus and then it gets changed next day. It can be "know it all" Flowerhorn guy that gives you a whole story on how this hybrid came about when he truly did not breed it himself. LOL, the breeders buy hybrids to make hybrids so they are LOST as well. Thats why different hybrids come out all the time, and how the true Golden Monkey will never be achieved again.
Its all irrelevant not in a sense that we dont use ANY names at all, but just dont argue and try to justify the genus or labels because it is whatever anyways. Anything goes PEOPLE..HAVE FUN
If the names don't matter then how you Identify your fish ?
Sent from my Comet using MonsterAquariaNetwork App
For you, you can use genus names. I am not your Daddy, lol. Don't matter meaning, we can call them anything we want...its being done anyways. It doesn't mean we dont call them anything AT ALL. I am not MOSES bringing the 10 commandments of Cichlids, Im just say that I think arguing and hammering down someone on specific Genus names and what have to be called is stupid and in the end, Irrelevant (pssss...its been changed, OUCH)
Just because science is dynamic and (in this area) never reaches complete certainty, it is not logical to consider it irrelevant. At a base level, if you wish to sell or give a fish to someone, you need a naming convention for the recipient to reference what he or she is getting. At a much infinite level, humans are only scratching the surface of understanding the evolutionary relationship these species have with one another. Genus reclassifications is the result of the progress of science, and not an indication of the honesty or intelligence of earlier scientists.
No one "knows it all" and all of us are surrounded by others who know more than we do. For most of us, it is easier to accept this fact than for others, who call themselves out with outrageous statements or thread titles. Putting oneself in a position to learn is a positive behavior and not an indictment of your lack of knowledge.
Also, knowing you are in the medical field (I'm supposing) is not a feel good when I get my bloodwork back or medication is being filled for me. I would hope "names" mean everything to all members of this community, not to mention science.
LOL, for you......I just have this.........Have Fun! Sorry for raising your blood pressure. Relax, have fun...Im just some guy on the computer typing up MY OPINION. Keywords here.
