Efficient ways of moving large heavy tanks??!!

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I didnt have to lift a single on of the three straight up in the air (240&150 are both acrylic and are relatively light). If youve ever walked an appliance across the floor thats how i did it off the truck and slid down hall and walked up on to the stands. The 240 had to go through a window on tk the stand. Piece of crap cake lol but no bs here as all were done by myself. Believe me or not but all my tanks are on stands and none were helped with as im too impatient to wait for someone to come help me out.

I have moved much much heavier stuff by myself than my 110g tall tank so I have no doubt someone could pull it off with a bit of ingenuity. A well thought out plan, proper rigging and proper tools will allow you to accomplish a lot by yourself. Most of the heavy things I have moved by myself have been steel or iron. Aquariums are a bit more challenging because it is easy to tweak a seam and cause a leak (weather you are by yourself or have help).

Just because someone says they moved a large tank by themselves doesn't mean they dead lifted it by themselves.

I heard of one guy that claimed he could move the moon if he had the right rigging... (some Greek nut job).

mm, I have moved 2x 180G on a steel stand alone but that was simply pushing the stand very small amounts over 1 hour.

The only way someone can move a large tank is by pushing it next to the stand and lifting one side at a time. once you get up to 12-14-15mm this becomes almost impossible alone too.

Why would you need a break? LOL! Someone said it is easy to slide a tank up and down stairs.

idk some people dont find moving things easy. just because somethings easy for one dose not mean its going to be easy for another. id prefer for someone to plan to take a break then try to push it all the way which is easy for me then find they cant handle it and have a tank sliding back on them. :|

borrow a motor lift if you know anyone in a service dept. they get used very little and one person can lift it into a truck. just dont put the straps in the wrong place cuz when it starts sliding you will die trying to catch it

Yep, if you try to lift the whole tank the whole distance in a single move it is pretty much impossible to move alone. If you break it down into smaller steps by using some 4x4's (Or even a set of encyclopedias... what ever those are?) for cribbing... it isn't all that impossible... unless, of course, you subscribe to the space aliens built the pyramids theory?

or invest in acrylic tanks, i put my old 500g on the stand by myself. its scary to think how much less my 500g acrylic tank weighed than my 150g glass
