Hey Gar Experts, Help-True Alligator Gar or Florida

Thanks all, if only I had the room to house one. My other lfs has some nice floridas but they have a nasty Ick out break at the moment and have yet to start treating them. (Bit of denial when pointed out)

Are you saying that the gars have ich? That's something that I have never seen before.

If you want the floridas I would just do as another poster has suggested and put them into a quaranteen first. Something that is a good idea with any new fish purchases.

I believe op just means there is ick in other tanks. Yes, definitely quarantine! It's much better to lose one fish than your whole stock!

I always qt so may do the treatment myself. Pretty sure the gars have ick as well. Fins have quite a bit of evidence (white spot) with some on body as well

That sucks! It's worth a shot if they aren't overpriced...how big are the Floridas?

Sounds about average...I got a 12" FLG from my lfs for $40. If you risk it I'd just make sure you get some kind of gaurantee or store credit or something if he dies

I thought the alligators were priced resonable. 84.95. I am headed back there next wed. Likely will not come home empty handed ( talking bout the floridas)

Id say $85 is high for alligator gar. Sites like aquascape online & ocean state aquatics have them for much less. You have to pay shipping to it would prolly be same price, but at least you'd be getting a healthy fish.

I would never suggest an alligator gar to anyone. Their potential size and aggression makes housing difficult. Most people can't provide a 15'x6'x'4', much less just to put one fish in it.
