  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
y dont you go for an 03 svt cobra. stock will walk on a gt 500 plus for 2000 you could have up to 750 hp all for under 20000

Sorry can you be more specific? Is that the exact title? 03 svt cobra? Or is the svt short for something? Im really liking the shelby!

around 1000 or less miles and good/great conditon? Still that low or would It be a lil higher? I cant go higher then 30K thats the absolute, most perferbly less.

So for a hot rod you could put almost any motor? Is there like a genral rule of thumb you cant put an engine with x amount of hp in this car and vice versa.

-No way you'll grab a new body cobra for 30k, unless it has been totaled.

-You can put almost any motor in anything, it just depends on how much know how, time and cash you have.

Back on topic:

The S.V.T. stands for Special Vehicle Team, it was S.V.O. before that.

Its the part of fords production that is specialized in high performance vehicles, most commonly associated with Cobra's and Lightning's and what not.

The 03-04' SVT Cobra suggestion was a great one, they were rated for 390hp out of the box (put down more around 425) and were strong running cars as long as you didn't have one of the first gen 03's with the motor issues (ford will fix this for free, it was a recall).

The reason that I suggest a hot rod is more based around cost, both car and insurance wise. At anything under 25 it was going to cost me $250+ a month just for insurance to drive a newer GT Mustang.

But when I had a 68" Mustang quoted it was only like $60 bucks a month full coverage.

Keep in mind both of these prices are from like 15 years ago.

Add that to the fact that a new Mustang GT, not even a Cobra was around 25k, (that number is about 32k loaded now). My 68' only cost me 7.5k out of pocket, granted I did have to spend about 3 weeks the summer I bought it fixing her up for the road a bit; so the cost was truthfully about 8-9k and a few days of my time.

You also tend to gain a bit of knowledge along the way when going the Hot-Rod route. I had to learn how to do things for myself on that car (still have her) that I wouldn't of had to do on a newer car. You'll probably end up on another forum much like this one when you hop into the performance car world; I did and I learned the same way that I am now currently learning about fish.

Someone mentioned insurance and that is going to be an issue for you since your still young and the car you want which is the GT500. Like my mom says, "you can afford the car, but you cant afford to drive it" i.e car insurance and gas.

How did I guess that the OP was a child?!?

Matt

Well the gt would only be when im 18 im 16 now but the only way I can get the gt early would be if the mercades will be to expensive to repair its beyond the transmission now the other day it just lytrilly stopped working on the middle of the road. But what will most likely happen is ill share my moms truck till im 18. Like you said I dont want to wreck an awesome car like that. I just saw a gt500 2013 for 30, 000 with 1300 miles. 2 of them in fact ill get the links.

What do you think sports cars had tiny engines? And 2003 ain't old kid. You're definitely thinking of just a gt not gt500 completely different car.

The $30K GT500 in your link is listed as a $75,000 buy it now, and the bid is sitting at $55,000 as of right now.

As a Mustang owner, the GT500 is way over your head for a first car. You need to crawl before you walk. Take it from an old guy. If you are getting a car and like the Mustang go for a 2012 or 2013 3.7L V6. Go drive one. They are good starter cars to learn. Spend time with it through college. When you get a long term full time job afterwards, then look at buying a 'fun' performance car.
