OSCAR IN A 40 GALLON? [PLEASE HELP!]

So, I have an empty 40 gallon and I KNOW That it cannot house an oscar for life...

So, How Long Could One Last in a 40 BREEDER???
(the reason for this is cause, my family REALLY wants a large AGGRESSIVE cichlid for their 40 gallon!)

(THE OSCAR WILL BE THE ONLY THING IN THE TANK)

as long as your doing a lot of large water changes you'll be good for a long while, or until the tank maintence becomes to much.

Yes, I will Be Doing Water Changes VERY OFTEN plus, 2 POWERFUL FILTERS!
 
It may stunt the oscars growth it kept for much longer than 6 months. Why not try something not as bulky like a salvini or some firemouths or a green terror they won't grow as fast as oscars.

...I wouldn't get a singular large cichlid for a 40 gallon, even with the impending move. There are so many cool smaller cichlids that you could house for life in that tank. Electric Blue Jack Dempsey would probably be on the upper limits in terms of size, but they are stunners...and mean! Firemouth cichlids, Salvini cichlids, etc. You could even house a mating pair of some of those cichlids...some earth eaters stay small but they won't be "aggressive". You can get some really cool fish, unless you are totally sold on an oscar, I'd say keep an open mind! I like having something "not everybody has", so the oscars are a bit overdone IMHO, hey some people love em!
 
They say they want an aggressive cichlid and you hear Oscar?

I can think of far better fish that fit the bill and will fit the tank too.

An Oscar is a no go, IMO

Would A Dempsey Fit For Life?
 
An Oscar could only last about less than 6 months before it starts to stunt, I say before 6 months just to be safe. As someone else said the only large cichlid you could get away with in a 40 breeder would be a Jack Dempsey.
 
Also, What about a severum? Or a pair of Firemouths or a pair of convicts?
