thinking bout a silver arowana

Tank size is the biggest issue, ive never known a silver to be aggressive. Oscars may bully the silver. I kept one with two Os before, they did alright but the aro had some obvious stress from the Os. They occassionally bullied the silver but nothing serious. Either way, the occasional bullying left the aro skittish and constantly fearful. Not the best choice for a tankmate
I thought about housing three tiger oscars with a silver arowana once I switched over to some new fish.. Once I get the arowana it's going to be around 7-8" long, Do you think if I were to introduce the arowana to the tank first, and then introduce the tiger oscars at say 3" long they would be alright? I figured i'd let the silver arow get acclimated first, and then add the oscars. And as they will be less than half the length of the arow I figured it would all even out and the arow would stay a good size bigger than the Oscars as they grew together so unlike your situation the oscars would not be aggresive towards the silver arow? Any thoughts or suggestions?

I don't mean to interfere with the original posters questions by the way, just read your comment and figured I'd ask a question myself.

im not sure of arowana prices in Canada but in Illinois, USA, a 5-7" arowana is around $60-$80 and a 10" would be $100+

I have seen some aro's on our classifieds start at 100 for 16"+ and run all the way up to 2000 for a 24"+ 24k one even a 18-24" silver I've seen for 300-650

i saw a couple 5 inchers at big als in mississauga for 34.00 but that was a while ago

Ya I saw some at BA in kitchener like 6 months ago as well prolly 4" or so, and couple weeks ago when I bought my bass I saw 2 10-12" silvers for 79.99 there in kitchener prolly woulda bought one if I had more time and was prepared for one that size in my tank lol, my smaller sized cichlids would become lunch lmao (which I'm trying to sell off now)

Silver arowana shouldn't be mixed with large cichlids until they are about 10-11" in length. Also the aro should be 2x as long as the cichlids. Regarding tank size the tank should be at least 3x the length of the silver and have a width/depth at least equal to the arowana. Your tank will be good for the aro upto about 18". With average growth(1 to 1.5" per month) a 7" arowana can be 18" in 7-8 months.
