Need an autopsy report

IME gars at almost any age/size are biters, esp. when hungry, which is like ... always. Esp. in the dark, they will try to bite anything that moves, whether or not they can swallow it. They can bite in the daylight too other fish that 10 times too big to be on their menue. It looks and sounds stupid. Just ME. Things are particularly bad in tanks; better in ponds... but only better, not perfect.

NO2 = nitrite at 2 ppm stresses fish greaty and kills from hours (sensitive fish) to weeks (secondary infections from stress and weakened immune system).

I don't think that I've ever had a problem with my gar biting. And if it was my payara it would have been very obvious. Not only the two fang marks but also the ton of other teeth behind them. They also shake whatever they grab ahold of so the wound would have been very obvious. I'll attach more pics and see if it helps.

One of the pics makes me think heater burns, but then I see the pic where it protrudes, and usually catfish survive heater burns that small. too bad I didn't have it here to see for myself.

Didn't see the second page lol. Waiting on more pics. Limas to me seem to stress when there are too many active fish other than limas in the tank with them unless it is a really large tank, or a really large lima(too big to care what others think lol)

The tank it was in was a standard 48" x18" x 21". The Liam's tank mates were a 12" gar, 6" redtail payara, four line pim, a 13" ropefish and a 8" ornate. They all seem to get along find. They never fought for territory or food. I have enough cover in the tank to suit everyone. The Lima would even actively hunt during the day too showing that he was comfortable( I occasionally fed live ghost shrimp so he would also hunt around the tank to see If he missed a few earlier). I'll try to get more pics. Anything you would need in specific?

As someone posted above, The Op's tank having 2ppm nitrite was the likely cause of death, The fish was probably injured and the bad water parameters cause the fish to suffer from the injuries. I don't mean the be the one to bring it up but.. you have 2 fish over 12" a 6" payara and 8" ornate in what appears to be 80 gallons of water, you are obviously over stocked.
