Let's get a 'things to do to save money' thread going

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I don't doubt you can get great stuff but I'm curious about the time it takes. You've admitted to 3 hours but there's multiple people involved who's time is unaccounted for.

I've seen the show and watched people in real life try to start up. Seems REAL time demanding

Don't get married, or have kids, live in your car, and eat McDonald's dollar menu everyday, take a bath every other day lot of things you can do to save money lol.

The best way to save money IMO is to distinguish between your needs and your wants. There's so many things that we think we need but are only wants. We don't need name brand foods or clothes or whatever. We don't need satellite or cable. We don't need the house to be kept at 75 during the summer. We don't need those snacks from ampm or 7-11. T
The little things add up quick. I carpool to and from work and school, I bring my own sack lunches and I don't drink or smoke. My friends that eat out and go drinking in stuff are always saying how broke they are while I have money piling up in the bank for a down payment on a house. I penny pinch not because I have to but because I know what my real needs and wants are

+1

Maybe your standards of living are too high, I recently switched to generic brands and I'm saving about 35% per month!

IME the people who are always *****ing about being broke are also most likely to smoke, play the lottery, and hang out at bars/use other substances. If you can't afford to eat or pay your bills then you can't afford $6+/pack to smoke. I have no sympathy for people with frivolous bad habits that can be given up yet complain about not having money.

cut off cable ,home phone and use your internet for shows movies and internet phone. Nothing on? watch your tanks with your wife she will hate you less for spending all the extra cash on fish..

I ditched cable a year ago and replaced it with a roku which I use to stream netflix and hulu. Coupled with a leaf antennae to pull in the local channels I don't really miss cable that much, and all together the initial setup cost me less than one month of cable and now it's only a few bucks a month for the streaming services.
