Convince me NOT to buy this PLEASE

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Unless you're planning to upgrade I wouldn't do it. Disc size can get to 2' and from nose to tail it can be 36" at full size. You probably have a year in the current tank. It is a sweet deal though lol

I would be very interested to hear from anyone that has a Flower ray "male" with a 24" disc, a ray that has been grown on to this size in domestic aquaria, sure they get huge in the wild but so do Leopoldi and many other species, but flowers and Tigers get brought up more than any other species as being unsuitable. I would say most ray keepers have tanks no more than 8ftlong by 3ftWide and 2ft tall(due to the missus lol!) often they are housing the other sp mentioned but few people have issues with this.......so come on, lets hear or better still see these 2ft-3ft diameter Flowers, I have only seen such fish in tropical ponds with thousands of gallons at their disposal.
What I am getting at is this.Nobody wants to think they are stunting their charges but in reality most of us are to a degree, and in most cases its a good job they don't all grow to their full potential, where on earth would they all finish up if they all grew to massive proportions? My view is so long as these fish grow to a reasonable size.. a size where they can actively breed making wild collections a thing of the past and we can enjoy them in our homes knowing that if things turn for the worst ie Divorce etc, we can re-home them without too much trouble.

So again please post up your monster Flowers (Aquarium raised specimens only), age of a particular specimen is important too.

Nice Flower by the way.

Thanks for your rant. Even if the ray grows to 20", you don't think it will be crammed in a 24" in tank? Most ray keepers on here will say no ( I'm not a ray keeper). Besides the fact the the op wanted to be talked OUT of buying it. Thanks for your useless contribution. Good luck Chris, do what feels right.

Because your "not" a ray keeper I will forgive you for that!

I am not suggesting a 24" tank is suitable for a 20" ray no, anyone that keeps rays will know exactly what I am getting at.
You would probably be best returning to the section you normally contribute too.

Then what exactly were you suggesting? I said that if he's planning to upgrade in the future, then do it. It's a good price for a nice ray. I contribute to all sections and will continue to do so. Chris, have the wifey buy it for you lol.
