When he settles in get us a pick of his claspers if you can. Will be interested in seeing how big they are at this size. Also, what color substrate was he on? Most flowers his size will of already turned black. Some stay lighter longer but most flowers that have settled in with no stress would of turned black by now.
The guy had him in a bare bottom tank. Snapped a few pics but I want to turn the lights off and let em chill for a bit. Will try to grab a pic of the claspers once its swimmin around and I can turn the lights back on

The claspers will be no more than 1.5"...that's my guess. The think with claspers they can suddenly grow without noticing significant size difference of the disc, so even if they are small it doesn't necessarily mean the ray will have to double its disc size to achieve maturity.

Yea my orbs claspers went from the size of a grain of rice to a solid inch within a month after I added my female mm. Disk only grew about an inch or so in that time.

WOW Sam!
That's some growth rate. What was you feeding him on? I have never seen a 20" disc male Flower, obviously they will attain this, I know a couple of guys that keep them but they don't go on sites like this, they haven't got close to this growth rate and have had them for more than 3 years.
I don't go with the sudden death syndrome either but you have to pose the question, where are all the big Flowers? I have kept them in the past but never found them difficult to raise, they were dominant, greedy and on occasion aggressive, facts that have already been pointed out.

He was the greediest feeder, in one day he would go through 15 large raw tiger prawns , 3 x 4" smelt which I used to stuff with massivore and a tmc shark vitamin tablet. Plus picking at any other pellets that made it past the other fish.
One thing I think I do that makes a difference to growth with all my fish is that I feed about five times a day, sometimes more if I'm working from home. I have a breeding pair of hoplarchus that I got at 4" about 18 months ago the male is now 12"
Personally I think a lot of flowers just end up not making it to that size due to poor conditions. Going back to the vitamin tablets, I think they are essential if you can't get a ray properly in pellets.

On the topic of the thread, that is one lovely looking flower.
