YOUR FIRST PIRANHA?

 • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
A black masked Elongatus is my dream piranha. But I live in Cali.

+1! I just can't find more time to put into another tank! My res keeps me way to busy, not to mention 12yr old bearded dragon, 4' ball python, 5 adult red belly shoal, a 2.5" rhom and my cat! I think when my beardy passes away I may entertain the idea, I love the look and rarity of elongs!

found the video of them yea i know it was crowded but i was stuborn and learning at the time this was close to when i had to give em back to fish store lol

Nice! Simple! I miss those days.

Over 15 yrs ago friend of family asked if I wanted piranha. I jumped on it n set up a tank n picked them up next day. Got 2 reds n 3 pacus from them. The pacus I read get huge n gave them away n picked up 3 more reds. That started my addiction lol. Soon was sitting on 14 tanks and 9 diffrent species of piranha. Then after a streak of bad luck heater boiled on tank n was outta town for a power outage I lost rest. So I stopped keeping piranha for a while n went sw. But dident last long lol. Now that I have a house first thing I got was reds again. Still the most interesting piranha out there and great looking. My reds ATM are pure evil n nothing lives in tank over a few seconds. Two min tops for faster fish. Just got another rhom cause serra's are my favorite to just stare at. There shape is stunning.

Didn't realise you had such a vast history of P keeping, that's rad man!

my first was a blue diamond rhom a few years ago only other type i've kept and still do keep is elongatus.

Nice, pic please? Thx

My first was a 4" RBP that some guy was selling on craigslist. I kept him in a 75 gallon tank with my foot long Blackbelt cichlid. They chased eachother around for a while, which wad great. Eventually the rbp began following the blackbelt everywhere like a puppy.

Feeding them feeders was awesome to watch, the rbp ate everything, including a dead snail i pulled out of the shell.

I had to get rid of him recently, i noticed sections of my blackbelts tail fin were missing and so i sold him at over 5" on craigslist to a guy with 5 or 6 of them in a 120 gallon tank.

My first was rbp he was awesome but stopped for a while but I want to get my 90 set up for 3-4 red bellies soon

i want to get back into the p game as well. Started out with 2 then got 1 then 4 more. Ended up with just one after a few weekly vacations and then gave him back to my lfs because i cut down a bit.

I want to get a solo monster piranha thats really mean.

Yea rbp are fin nippers, this is a natural behavior they display in the wild and In aquariums, they mainly eat the fins off of pacu and fellow piranha, the fins contain protein so they can sustain the Piranha!

I've noticed that when they hit the 6-7" mark they cut down, but I still see them doing it every now and then but no where near as bad when they were younger!

Nice! My shoal used to reside in my 90, I had 6 of them in it but when they hit 4-5" it was crowded and aggression was high, so I re honed one of them, and a few months later my shoal of 5 has a 125gal!

A RHOM would be perfect for you, they are VERY aggressive ambush hunters and cannot be housed with any other Piranha! Elongs are also crazy aggressive!

First were some LFS baby reds. High school me wasnt exactly ballin so $5 fish had to do.

Haha sounds about right!

I believe they are very old ancestors of a Piranha sub family! Very awesome fish, welcome to the group!
