My New 900 gallon, filtration ideas from you seasoned MFK'ers, Advice Needed !

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Thanks for all the compliments, I'm super Stoked, my Christmas/Birthday (probably for the next 10years worth) present from my wife !

Great pickup, I saw this for sale you got it for a steal!

The price never made it's Reserve Price, I negotiated a price without Skimmer and Stand. I'm happy with what I got, even threw I'm a whole
Box of Novus Acrylic spray! My stand ain't gonna be cheap through, but I'm sure looking forward to getting it running!!!

Hey awsome !! Ya my tank is 120x36x36...Filtration will depend greatly on your stock choices both now and what the future will bring to the tank and right now is the perfect time to start with design and like i say keeping in mind what your tank stock "WILL" look like is most important !!!!Oh and by the way my tank is a tenecor also with 1 inch all around ...I drilled mine for a closed loop but that is completly up to you:)

Wow, I never thought of that, great point, so 6" from bottom is what most of you guys drill the tank, what do you think of drilling the bottom, if not I'd do the left side where the Ultimas will be, I'll keep the sump running for increased bio and running my heat exchanger.

Floor drains are really really nice you will not be able to keep sand in it but you will never have to clean the bottom ever. All depends on stock plans but a tile bottom with floor drains and a closed loop system plus a sump will sure make it nice.

I have a real aversion to drilling the back and bottom of my tanks...what if a bulkhead breaks or something? I like holes in the tops of my tanks. On our 300 gallon tank, we drilled about four holes in the top of the tank to accomodate our mechanical filtration and our FX-5.

In our big upgrade tank, we will have one Ultima drawing and returning water from holes in the top of the tank.
Like holes on the top so much, I had eleven holes placed in the top of my new tank when it was fabricated.

Couple of the holes

one of the external overflow boxes is on the right/one of the tank openings on the left. You do have increased head by drawing and returning from the top of the tank, but Barracuda Gold/Hammerhead pumps can handle the increased head.

Cant wait to watch the progress on this one. Awesome tank!

Thanks for all the advice! I thought about that too, I remember a tank in Artesia with a bunch of exotics that had bottom drains and a check valve failed or they doesn't have check valves and when the power went out in the store 99.9% of the water drained and all fish perished.

I'm gonna fill with all my Festae fry and grow them out. My big pair produced such fantastic fry I have a hard time letting go of the fry small.

Any lead for a couple Ultimas! I'll keep you guys updated. I'm having a 40" high 2"x2" 1/8" steel stand built for it now!
