also dont get rid of your filter either. All your benificial bacterial will be in there. Not sure if this tank is cycle or if you're cycling it now with them. Just test your parameters a lot early then WC, WC, WC and you're all set.

Dempsy's look nothing like BP's so aggression between them should be a minimal amount.

GL Man.
As far as I have experienced CA/SA cichlid will be aggressive regardless of if they look alike

that's not 100% true, as many species tend to be more aggressive towards conspecifics and closely related species than towards dissimilar fish

But they will still be aggressive to other fish that don't look alike. I'm not trying to say they will be equally aggressive to fish that look alike and fish that don't, I'm saying that they will be aggressive regardless of looks.

But in this case, we're talking about dempseys, which are not generally a particularly aggressive cichlid..so there is a likelihood that there could be only little and manageable amount of aggression towards the BP.

Aggressive is often to broad of a term.

It's really territorial vs aggression vs predatory. Jds are typically more territorial than just aggressive. Little bastards like neets - they are the definition of aggressive. Then You have parachromis genus who is a mix of all three.

Aggression of all types depend on the fish. My male jack is aggressive to all fish. He is predatory, very territorial, and will chase any and everything that moves. And plus I'm not talking only about the jds, I'm also talking about the parrots... particularly the midas in them. Like I said it all depends on the fish. There are cases of jds of chasing 15in doviis around, and I had a 7in jd that not only didn't eat a feeder guppy, but actually swam with it.

If the tank has only been set up for two days I would suspect it isn't cycled. I would recomend getting a good test kit so you can monitor your perameters, Ammonia, Nitrite and Nitrate. The tank realy shouldn't have been stocked until the tank finished cycling. While the tank is cycling it will be important to keep up with water chances while keeping feedings to a minimum, Ammonia and to a slightly lesser extent Nitrite are highly toxic and will kill your fish if not managed carfully.. Do some reasearch on Aquarium cycling the is plenty of information on the subject in the "Set up and Filtration" forum. I surprised the LFS owner didn't mention cycling to you.

Yea he never mentioned cycling the tank so I will definatly look into that right now. Everyone seems to be doing fine the parrots were in the same cave this morning and one jack stays mostly at the bottom and other at the top unless they run into each other. Eating really good.
