cichla fogo

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
well what other cichla can u get in thats rare, and legal. and i have seen a fogo at my aquarium in San Fransisco. Is it because they are a state aquarium??
actually do a search on the MFK search function to learn more about the subject., this subject has been visited many times already.

All peacock bass are illegal to export out of Brazil, its a food fish, regulated, can be consumed and harvested, but not on the list of fish allowed to be exported. With that said, some peacock bass have been smuggled out across the boarder to Peru, Colombia, or shipped out with larger shipments.

Fogo, which is cichla marianae, not to be confused with cichla melaniae "xingu" peacock bass. Fogo, cichla marianae has never been seen in any private aquariums, claims from a member in Japan, Seiichi Hamada said he had them, but we have not seen updates of the adult fish, ever., so we will never know.

The State of Para, where "fogo" comes from, is more remote., they have fishing trips to go there, and the quickest route is 2 plane exchange after you arrive in Brazil. So the travel time is considerable., and if they're illegal to export, nobody is taking the risk, of time, money, and run in with the law down in Brazil.

There are many other rare, equally as beautiful, if not more beautiful peacock bass out in the hobby now, enjoy them, buy them, while they're here, as they may not always be around.

yeah, thanks for noticing. and I'm sure it was a nice cichla sp. probably monoculus or occelaris at best. Cichla merianae will not be found outside of Brazil anytime soon

I'm sorry. Let me rephrase that. It did have quite a bit of red, however, I wasn't into fish back then so I'm not 100% sure I recognized it or not.

Fixed
