Yes I cemented all fitting expect where the vinyl will attach to the pvc. I angled it just right or so I think and that's also why I made each hole 1/4" up and down as it goes down the bar. I wish I would have thought about not cementing it first! But oh well my landscape company has loads of pvc as we do irrigation so i didn't pay a dime for it besides the paint!

Appreciate the advice and I can't wait to install it, my piranhas are very skiddish when I put stuff in the tank so i want to do it once and be done!

Yeah...PVC is so cheap you can always use that one as a spare or if it works perfect then no worries. Just keep in mind if you do make another not to glue the PVC where is meets the elbows inside the tank and in your case the one elbow and on the other end the endcap. Glue all other connections except the vinyl and you are good.

How do you plan on hanging the one end?

Ok so it's all installed, ended up trimming about 10" off the bar.

I had some aluminum sitting around in which I bent into a clamp to hold the spray bar on the opposite end, works great and very sturdy:

The vinyl hose is very tight on the 4" section of the stock intake tube:

Imo looks great, I can hardly even see it and it's already stirring up debris and my korillia powerhead is blasting it straight toward the intake:

The flow is perfect and just what I was looking for to keep the surface of my pfs clean, all in all a good solid build inspired by razorbackfan, Thx for your help man!

I have a 405 that I got used about two years ago that I'm happy with. The guy said he was using it for years so I'm not sure exactly how old it is but other than replacing the impeller, impeller cover plate, and gasket I haven't had to do anything to it other than regular maintenance. My only complaint is that it can be hard to remove the lid for service where a different design on the handles could remedy that, but otherwise I love it and would be more than willing to upgrade to a FX5.

Hagen makes great products IMO
I used to be all over AC110s until they started making loud noises (even after numerous cleanings and new motors)
I only have a AC70 now and that is much quieter for some reason + easier to clean since its not as big

As far as canisters, I love my Fluval G3. A bit high tech, but so easy to maintain + so quiet I cant even hear it

Yep...that's me.

The g series is crazy expensive though.

But craZy worth it!
I got mine on sale for 180..
It reads temp, conductivity, allows me to monitor my biological and mech/chem filtration w/ graphs, etc.

The best thing about it is ease of maintenance. No need to get your hands dirty when cleaning the mechanical cartridge plus they have cartridges that remove nitrite and help keep them low. Also its nearly impossible to leak...so IMO, the G series is worth it in the long run :D

Well everyone knows I couldn't let this one pass without chiming in:headbang2.

2 FX5's, have had issues with hoses leaking, hose connectors will not shut off all the way so when I clean the filter that clamp has to stay in the bucket. I flat out feel this this is a poorly designed filter with tons of bypass if you dont use pads then the pads clog. I dont think it pumps remotely close to what they claim. And I'm sure I could go on and on. Still kick myself in the as? for not shipping these things back while I had my chance. Terrible customer service.

:

I have 3 FX5s and I've had problems with all 3. Last year one of the motors failed on my first fx5. I sent it in to get fixed and they sent it back about 2 weeks later.

Then the other 2 FX5s I have both failed in the same week. Both of the motors failed on that one too. I cleaned them out every 6 months and they still broke. I'm going to sell them and just go with a sump and an ac110 on my 210g tank.
