I want to cut the corner overflow vents another 2" from the top down. I have a 265g tank with two corner overflow vents. what kind of saw do you guys recommend to use? Can someone offer any tips on doing this without screwing up?

Never sawed it but I drilled 1/2 holes in mine from the top down to about 2/3 up. Drilled easy. Sawsall should work fine just go slow.
why did you drill it? what was the purpose?

To drain the water and keep the water level lower. It's more feasible than to cut the openings/grids/teeth of the overflow.

To drain the water
wouldnt it make more sense to cut to eliminate the excess water noise level in the overflow box? I would imagine drilling would create an enormous amount of water gurgling noise in the hole. I just thought cutting the overflow vents or teeth would look cleaner and more professional looking.

I would use a dremel roto tool with a router bit.

It's more feasible than to cut the vents of the overflow. However, your bichir or small fish may go thru the hole into the overflow. It's almost impossible to cut those vents

A friend of mine cut very thin slits in his corner overflows in order to make a more even flow throughout depth, as opposed to primarily on the surface.

Mine is just as quiet as it was before and I did it on the sides so it isn't really noticeable. This setup has a 2262 on it and it just pulls water from the overflow so it never pulls water down below the overall water level to create noise. I just like the extra security of having it to where if for some reason the water level dropped below the slits I wouldn't loose filtration. I mostly just did it because I'm anal about stuff like that and try to avoid problems instead of deal with them. Just a little extra security.

do you have a pic of this roto tool with router bit? I googled this and got some many pics. I am not sure which to use.
