TSN in 250 gallon concrete pond?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Not to offend sbuse but he's only saying what people want to hear because he has a tsn and his biggest tank is a 180 gallon full of big gar. It would take a tsn 5 or 6 years to out grow his pond. But I'm likening the idea of a aro and a Tig better then the tsn idea better a tank with only one tsn would be boring

I actually have it for sale. I am going to wait until I have my 10'x10'x3' like I planned to in the first place. The one I have actually fell into my hands. I plan on my pond/tank being operational in the next 2-3 years. The tsn will have out grown my 180gal by then, so it is for sale. If I would have not been so sure that my house would have been in line in the next 1-2 years I wouldn't have gotten it to begin with. I have said over and over that I want to wait until my big tank is ready before I get any more big cats. So am I saying what people want to hear, yes. is it from experience, yes. I have been in the situation I am telling the op about. I had to sell my 3 large tsn before because I didn't have a pond ready.

Yes I have a 180 full of big gars and because they are in there I have sold all my aros, pbass, big cats, cichlids and a few others. All my plans got set back about a year due too an injury and resulting loss of my job. Knowing this I have made the proper precautions. The only thing that may out grow my 180 gal before I get my big tank up is my gator gar. That gator may not be in my tank long enough to out grow it because it may snap and be removed. These are all things you didn't know. Now you do, so telling people I am just telling them what they want to hear without knowing the actual facts is garbage. Notice how I stated if the op planned a bigger pond I would say years of stay in his current pond. Going off the ops posts, it was a for life question. I plan a big pond thus I have/had a cat to grow out. Pond date changed so why hold onto it knowing I can't keep it. I am not offended just irritated how so many people on here step up and say stuff they lack actual knowledge about. Especially when it about someone else.

Oh ya 5-6 years and it is already been stunted. These cats under proper housing, food and water quality can hit 2' in a year or less. That doesn't leave room for them to grow much more in the pond the op has got. Since once it starts to feel crammed in it will start to stunt. That is why fish in the wild are so much larger on average then fish in captivity. They should be larger in captivity then the wild because they don't have to fight for life it is "spoon fed" to them.

Asian aros are very highly territorially aggressive. Either a large group of say at least 10 or a loner usually works in the tank of your size.

Unless he could find a m/f pair. Then he could do a pair. Chances are slim, but better at finding an adult pair of Asian aros then with any other kind. I would recommend a sr alone with the Tig. That's just me though or maybe what everyone wants to hear.

Okay thanks. So just one asian aro?

Yes potential stock list

1 Asian aro
1 tig
2-3 Oscars if you want but I wouldn't
1 clown knife.

That is a heavy adult load for that pond. You could lose the Oscars since they will most likely mess with the aro and do something else. Oscars are messy and the only reason I am saying them is you brought them up. So either you have some and want to put them in or you like them and are thinking of getting some.

30 G sump with a 450gph pump. And water plants.

I would deff add to that filtration. If you can get a few more pumps and do some bucket/barrel towers with plants in the top and fill them up with some good media. Similar to what gangster suggested. Then if you have the barrels around some of the pond the pond they will help as an aro barrier.
