how many of you use prime?

Well then we agree, the smell is from a "top secret" sodium sulfer compound. Good info.

I bought an $8 bottle of safe over a year and a half ago and have only gone through maybe half of it so far, and thats with dosing for full volume on a 110 with approx 50% changes every week. I won't ever use anything else. As an added bonus it doesn't have as much of a sulfer smell as prime either.

I use "Safe" the powder form of prime. Its the best product on the market IMO. I do massive daily water changes and have never had any problems. Safe is far cheaper if you do large volume water changes.I have adult discus that receive 50%+ changes every day and several over crowded large SA tanks that also require large and frequent changes.

My tap water is so dangerous with chloramines during the winter if you python change water and don't use prime 2x direction or double up on it. Your tank gets in trouble fast. How may that responded on this thread actually know what there tap water readings are?

Most people have no idea what their chlorine/chloramine values are. Mine are 2mg/l chloramine - constant year round.

You state that you have to use 2x the amount of prime, are you saying that you use 2 capfuls for every 50 gallons of tap water?

how do you measure for diluting the powdered SeaChem Safe.

can the dilution be stored in a bottle & remain effective?

You add the powder directly to the tank, and fill. Same as you would with Prime.

You can mix it with water, but there are no stabilizing agents and according to Dr. Greg Morin from Seachem the premixed solution should be used up within 30 days.
