This tank has been on CL for over a year. It a 1000g acrylic with spray paint on both sides of it. I am proficient in buffing acrylic from 220 grit up to novus 1. Do you guys think this tank can be saved? My wife is actually entertaining the idea of getting it because her niger cat is at 28" and growing in a 375g.

Nice tank, I like it. 4500 is steep to me thow.

Man, punk kids! Whoever did that to the tank is a total low life.

I would think you can sand the spray paint right off without too much problem. If I were considering it, I would either ask if I could sand down a portion of the tank to see what happens or at the very least buy some scrap pieces of acrylic (Tap Plastics sells scrap for super cheap) and spray paint a piece and try to get it off as a test.

If that really is an ATM tank and it's 2" acrylic (I think they usually make their tanks that thick at that height), $4,500 isn't that bad of a deal, even with the spray paint damage.

I think Mufasa would approve...his friend the Niger Cat would love the extra space.

100% agree on both points above.

Here at work we use Purell hand sanitizer to remove spray paint and other graffiti from various surfaces including acrylic. So you might wanna work a deal ;)

It was an abandoned house..you can see stuff all all torn up and tagging every where..who would do that to a tank..my God...i would find"blaze"and dip his silly ass, head first into a55 gallon drum of old oil paint..

No prob you want to wet sand it and power buff it.Google color sanding techniques/how to its the same .Ive seen gouged headlights sanded and restored that's light in comparison.

Maybe some paint remover would work, I don't know how if it would negatively effect the acrylic though. I've used it to remove paint off an old aluminum boat and it peeled right off. Again don't know if this stuff can be used on acrylic.
