Trying to cut down on electric bill

Thank you for all the responses, I keep African Cichlids and maintain a temp of 78- 80 deg. the tanks do have glass lids and no insulation as they are in my living space until the fish room is complete. I run LED lights and keep usage to a minimum as they have the night light option which I really like. For filtration I run canisters and power filters and I am over filtered e.g (120 gallon has 1 xp4 and 1 xp3) my tanks are not over stocked so I could probably cut back on filtration to save some but really don't want to. With for kids it seems I am always walking around turning off lights and T.V.'s.

African cichlids do not need such high temperatures. They will do fine and spawn at 75-76 degrees.

if you live in real warm climate ,like phx., turn off (unplug) your heaters once the house temps get to summer(78f and above) temps .. I do this every year ,and it saves big$$$

+1 on this. I let my temps drop to 75 for the winter months. All my heaters are set to 75. Most of the time (9 months) they are never on.

I believe it. Most reef systems have lots of submersible pumps and lights such as metal halides which produce a large amount of heat.
Agreed.
Could it be possible to use a heat lamp....heat+light
It would take a pretty big one to keep a tank properly heated and it would likey consume more juice than aquarium heaters.
