Trying to cut down on electric bill

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
put your tank next to the window where the sun's heat can do the job!

Thank you everyone for the info I am going to try running the tanks at 75 deg. and see how it goes.

Keep after the kids too...Growing up in my grandmothers house and hearing her constantly yelling about leaving the lights and tv's on has played a part in me being as conscious about utilities and bills as I am years later.

I agree with Joe about the sun, but the Tropheus might appreciate the algae if it grows on the rocks, as it is the major part of their diet. I keep a few tanks in the sun, and the heaters only go on at night, but the algae is never ending battle.

The green is algae on the rear glass.

heres what i am going to be doing.

set up my fish room in a 10x10 ( or 12 by 12 ) bedroom ( i live in a 1 bed apt, and i sleep in the living room, so the bedroom is going to be my fish room ) turn off my heat in my living room, only use the heater in the bedroom, set at 70, keep my door shut, windows shut ( well leave the window open a crack, so some air ventilation can circulate the room ) so heat the room by my apt heater. cut way down on my elec bill.
