I do NOT fool around with filtration

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I dont think 3 gold fish represent a bigger bio load than a full grown FH.

I'd take that bet, if I was a betting man, which I am not. :)

Anyway, its perfectly ok to use less filtration than I do.

You can never have to much filtration. You can only have to little room to put it in. On my 180gal I have a 40gal sump, fx5, and an oddasy 700. I am going to be building a 1000gph hydroponic system and adding an aqua top 500 to the system. I am also going to link it to my fully planted 125 right next to it. That tank has 2x ehime pro 3 filters and they both have sponge filters.

See, now that's what I'm talking about! :)

I have a whisper 60, a marineland 350, and a aquaclear 50 on my 45 gallon tank. But i only have the aquaclear 50 on the 45 gallon to get some bb in it, its actally gona go in my 20 gal long.

Ok guys Im not trying to be a douche but youre only wasting your money.....maybe you guys have a lot of money and high power consumptions arent really an issue to you...... anyway that much filtration wouldnt make really a difference unless you guys have a very heavy bioload which I have seen in this thread it is not always the case.

You're just a bunch of filtration junkies.....;)

it doesnt matter how many filters you have running you cant escape from a water change routine...

1. I am a filtration Junkie
2. I perform 15-25 per cent water changes ever four-five days on all my tanks.
3. My bio-load is high, trust me.

:)

One other thing, you have no idea how fast my filters clog with Goldfish crap, it is unbelievable. I see it as redundancy which is necessary.

I have a lot of fish. Big fish. My water would be destroyed in hours if I do any less. What I have is actually a bare min. I do a 75% WC once every week. Also when I hook up my drip system I actually will bypass the water change since the drip system will automatically do it for me. When I link the two systems together and run my hydrophonic system on the two tanks I will only need to clean the turds out and top it off. Maybe change the water once a month max. The plants will take care of the rest. I will added vitamins for the plants. To lengthen the time to change water. At the only real need for a WC after that is to get more minerals into the system.

My fish in the tank pop out turds the size of your thumb. This tank will be upgraded to a 10'x10'x3' once I move. That system will also be fully planted and with all that room for filtration I will still have about 14x turnover on it.

The stock for this 180gal is

1x 23"+ tropical gar
1x 21"+ tropical gar
1x 20" Florida gar
2x 20" longnose gar
1x 18"+ Florida gar
1x 18"+ shortnose gar
1x 16" Florida gar
1x 16" Cuban gar
2x 14" Florida gar
2x 14" longnose gar
1x 15" bowfin

Growing out I have
1x 14" longnose
1x 12" gator gar
1x 6"+ Niger catfish
1x 5" mala wolf fish

Will be growing out soon
5x black aro
5x silver aro

Once I have my 10x10x3 built they all will be combined. Then I will grow out some more catfish, gars and possibly rays for that big tank.

I am most likely in the next month or so getting a 6'x3'x2' for these fish to hold up in a bit longer.

more filters make it easier to get nitrates out of the tank. you can always clean some media
