New direction with severums and maybe more

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Well they are listed as red spotted gold severums. I assumed these were basic reds? Then super red is just linebred to get more intense? I dont know.. lol.

I do think they are notatus because after looking at the profile it does say they are sometimes called spotted severums. They do look nice.. You have a good idea there about keeping the best ones.. they are 30-40 bucks and I am going on vacation in a week, and moving in may so I am trying to save money.. though i do still have a gift card from my work... hmmm :) I told myself I wouldnt ever get any fish that were expensive. So far i have done good and all my bottom feeders have been my most expensive! lol. (gold nugget $38, royal $35, and african featherfin catfish $19) I am also saving for their permanent home! :)

Super reds are just another name for red spot sevs. They have a couple different common names. I just call them super reds because its what I read more often than red spot. The super red I got was listed as red spot, so definitely the same thing. :)

I love my expensive sevs. LOL My turquoise cost me $8.50 each when they were 1.5" each. The super red is $30 locally, but I traded 2 of my 3-.5-4" turquoise for it. The Heros Severus mouth brooders are very expensive as they are quite rare. I think something like $50 each.

My favorite sev colors from most to least:
Super red
Notatus
Turquoise
Green
Severus mouth brooders
Gold

I would have gone with the notatus if I could have found reasonably priced ones before I found my turquoise.

I've been keeping fish for many years and have been most happy with my all severum tank. I have one red, one gold, a pair of notatus, pair of atabapo, and a pair of rocketiel.

Well so far 6.50 for both greens, 6.50 for the gold.. the red is going to be 20. I can still get the dude to order me a notatus but he said it will be like 30-40. I forget what price but at 2-3 inches. Im thinking about pulling the trigger lol

Great prices on the greens, gold and reds. Notatus seems a bit high to me, but that is probably because I know a place that sells six 2" juvies for $28 total. I pasted the link below. You would have to pay for shipping, which will obviously cost you more than just one, but you would have your pick of the litter once they grow up and you have to rehome some. The link may not always have them in stock, but when they do they are very reasonably priced.

They're all in a 125. I think you should order the notatus. You won't be disappointed in a severum tank.

Cool topic for me... I recently just got my first severums. I got 3 Rio Maica wild caught from Jeff rapps. I have gotten into pbass & my old passion cichlids do not work with the bass. But these sevs are beautiful... My wife loves them! Let me know what you guys think...
