And I appreciate - a lot - your input.
You have been my biggest help in this adventure!

p.s.: I may get a very cheap 250g (72x40x24") tank this weekend that would be their final home...

I believe it´s time to upgrade to their next "villa" a 40x20x22" - 55g. Do you agree?

And a pic of the CK, that I find absolutely beautifdul (Amy, I am keeping an eye on him and so far so good)

I like how you now love Knives, Doctor John....:):)

Very nice CK, I woulda taken a chance with one with so many spots as well. If the biggest is about 9" atm I'de wait until he's pushing closer to 12"... 20"deep I'm assuming with the measurements for me would concern me abit.. Unless they are a very mellow group. the problem with giving them more room to stretch particularly in tanks is if they spook the more force they generate until they slam into the glass, and the more likely damage sustained is life threatening ect... If your water perameters are holding steady ect I'de wait it out abit longer, if you are having to do massive water changes daily ect to keep up.. then its prolly worth the risk. It's just a hard call to make. I made the call to move a juvi flg from a 20 to a 40 at around 6-7"... he ended up with a kink in his neck that never straightened out from what i can only guess was spooking into the glass at one point. I found my flg once 12" or so seemed to just chill out, be it from being in my care and use to their surrounding so long, or just mellowing with age ( like a kitten or puppy does) idk.. But just be careful not to give them to much room to fast.

And ty for the kind words.

Amy,

Thanks a lot for the imput.

I made a conversion error reg the measures of the "new" tank: it´s 40L*16D*20"H. Same dept of the one they´re in right now (28L*16D*18H).
Would this info change your advise?

The current tank is connected to the big one and the water is constantly renewed via a drip system. So I have no special work to keep this running (no WC...) as opposed to what will happen in the new tank that will have a separate maintenance (so, more work for me).
Having said that I was considering moving part of them for 2 reasons:
1- the 2 smaller ones are falling behind and the size difference is now significant. Moving the bigger guys would help them to catch the pace (in a couple of weeks)
2-I will be needing this tank in a few weeks/month to raise some festae babies of mine and Miguel´s midas babies.

But, I may wait a bit more or find a new solution to raise the cichlids, if more advisable

Edit: What I could also do is moving them and split the new tank with eggcrate giving the 5 bigger ones 3/4 of the tank and the 2small ones the rest of it

the 4" actually does make a difference.. I would say your idea to move all but the 2 small guys is probablly what I'de do... give them some time to catch-up so when you need to tank for the grow-outs they will ideally be caught-up abit. you may consider splitting the group up more evenly if your concerned the 2 smallest will be spooky as well, simply for that reason alone. But again that one of those knowing your fishes personalities ect.

useing eggcrate is always another idea but I never did it because I was worried somebodys snout would get caught-up in it.
