This whole deal kind of reminds me of a local sandwich shop that has had a somewhat contraversal name for the many or has been in business...The store was called Chinks Steaks, named after the original owners nickname.Thats been the name of the place for decades but recently there has been pressure from some groups for the current owner to change the name to something a little more PC.
I'm so sick of this PC world

Everything in degrees...

Take FSU Seminoles...The Seminole tribe in Florida has no problem with it, and they like it. People who stir trouble against that I believe is going overboard. like this

Find some Native Americans that like the term redskins....

I can use some other names to illustrate my point but those would be against the TOS.

If you don't know that redskin is a racial slur then you don't wanna know. People are so conditioned to hearing that name that it doesn't bother them. Thats the only slur I know for N. Americans. So yeah its a slur. Wether it offends you or not. Blackskins wouldn't be a slur because I refer to myself as black but if it was N-bombskins I'd be pissed. Think about the slurs used against your ethnicities (Irishor Italian) would you still feel like its pc? If you say no I call b.s.

What I find interesting is people get offended even on this site and go ballistic if something anti American is said but fail to comprehend the impact or negative feelings native Americans might have toward the term redskins and the ridiculous mascots and routines.

If they used black skins and decided to use a gangbanger as the mascot. Have watermelon and chicken nights, free entrance for white girls with big booties, etc etc. Yeah I might be offended

Also....why are we saying we should do nothing if only a few are offended, THERES only a few native Americans to begin with. If I'm hearing noise from them, that's more then enough to make me reconsider my way of thinking

Its always been that way is poor mans thinking too. Let's get women back in the kitchen and out of the work place, homosexuals back in the closet, enslave other races, etc etc too

I like the name, I like the logo, and I think that people go too far with the PC thing. Teams called the "Warriors" or "Raiders" with native american logos should not change.

Redskin is a slur though, and if people are offended, then it should change. I personally really liked the spear helmets that they had in the early 2000's. I think they should bring those back and go to the Lakotas or a name like that.

Why don't you ask Jim Thorpe? He was a native american football player that happened to play for-you guessed it-the Redskins. There are lots of natives who support the team, and I find it interesting that non-natives are the ones starting this crap as usual.Whether it be a white guy or a black guy that doesn't like the Redskins team.I'm part native-Cherokee,so step off Eddie. You're just being a tool for a white councilman trying to make a name for himself,or didn't you know what this was really about?

:screwy:Well that settles it. I guess it's no longer a racial slur... :screwy:

It seems like a racial slur to me, but I am not Native American.

According to this article, only 9% of Native Americans believe it is a slur. If only 10% of the population is offended, it doesn't seem like enough to change. But at what point does it become offensive to enough people to do something, 50%?

It took only one person to inform me that calling a person oriental is offensive. I haven't done it since, even if others aren't offended by it.
