Ive decided to release the lmb back in lake in my backyard...
I realize that tank is not a good home..
Time to start fresh

Something about this is very...fishy.

Back into the lake? You took it out of the lake to begin with and you didn't release it back into the lake but you had to let it go? You killed a fish because you couldn't keep it?

Not one member of this board was born an experienced fish keeper. We all had to learn from other more experienced folks what works and what dont, in your case it was a disappointing lesson, however with mistakes comes knowledge, hopefully, and we study and read and even then make more mistakes, but it will come. Never get discouraged or feel inadequate in your hobby, just always strive to do better.

Very well said, sir.

We as a community need to embrace our new members and educate them, not brow beat them and insult them for lacking the knowledge that we possess. If we don't treat them right, we'll never bring new members into the fold.

I for one am absolutely fed up with the negative attitude of some, though far from all, of the experienced members of this community when it comes to helping new and inexperienced people.

Granted some noobs need to be checked, but the vast majority just don't know better.

I'm going to give him the benefit of the doubt and say that he realized just how huge a LMB could be and that he couldn't properly house it for life. He couldn't release the fish, so he did the only thing he could do and euthanized it.

Because finding a new home for it was not an option? Seriously, seventeen hours from original post to killing the fish. I guess I'll just leave it at that as there are those here that frown on my negativity.

Being new is something none of us can frown upon. Everyone makes mistakes. If its a native fish to were you live you could have let him go.

So whats your plan now?

I don't find you as being negative in this instance. I think it was a little quick on the trigger too, that might not have been necessary.

I agree, no need to kill the Bass. Waste of a life.

There are plenty of options for rehoming large fish. Post it as free to a good home on MFK/AC, bring it to an artificial pond at a local botanical garden, leave it at Cabella's or Basspro, bring it to a large fish supplier or vendor...

The reason that being new is not a crime is that new fishkeepers dont always have the resources to make good decisions. However, you're on MFK, and you have all of MFK and the internet at your disposal. You have more than enough resources to know what you can and cant keep.

Being new is not a transgression. Being ignorant definitely is, though.
