I'm not saying the word Redskins cannot be an offensive word. It can be and apparently is to a lot of people.
But should the minority of people feelings or thinking set the rules in this country. Or should majority set the rules for the majority.
There's not many things if any where 100% of the population agrees on any particular issue. But if we have a majority that favors one side over the other or if the issue was put to a vote and one side wins over the other should the losing side win cause they don't like it. You think that's how a democracy should be run where the minority the losing side sets or tells how the majority needs to think and feel.
If they did and they used the name in the context of Pride and Honor for there team. It was a name they were proud of. I would not have a problem with it.Do you foresee a sports team name themselves whiteman?
All, too, will bear in mind this sacred principle, that though the will of the majority is in all cases to prevail, that will to be rightful must be reasonable; that the minority possess their equal rights, which equal law must protect, and to violate would be oppression. - Thomas Jefferson
Given the historical shaft that Native Americans have received in American history (you know, genocide and all...), I'm inclined to respect the 10% or so who find "Redskin" offensive and change the name to something else.

I'm sorry your offended by the name Redskins. Its your right nobody can tell you how to feel. I am offended by President Obama I can find over 49% of the population that feel Obama is offensive. Should the minority prevail. Is the minority being oppressed.
