Went to the lake and couldn't get a whole lot of action. Spent probably 4 hours fishin the bank from a boat with the current pushing us around. We had one cat bite but it didn't stay. I guy came over on another boat and said he had caught perch all morning on the other side of the lake. He had only started a half hour before we did. Guess we'll try the other side next time.

That is what I figured. They just added the bow fishing through the ice with lights in the last year or two. Day or night. Now that is the tricky part. If you shoot a pike in the evening before dark and stay after to shoot carps with lights your now in possetion of a gamefish speared/shot and you are using lights. You did it legally but they have to make clarifications on that because I can see someone getting charged with that or some fool shooting pike after dark with lights and saying they shot them in the day. I keep a lot of fish in a bucket of water so they don't freeze for ease of cleaning after I get back. If it is not frozen who's to say I didn't shoot it after dark. It is going to be a touchy subject. Along with the closing of bow fishing. Why close it when the fish are slow and lethargic? The best time to remove them from the lake is when you can get high numbers. This spring is a great example of it. I shoot more fish because they are less spooky.

I can see this as an issue, however they cannot really charge you for that as they have no proof that you took pikes at night.

But I agreed with you that they should leave the bowfishing season open all year around whole state instead of just southern MN for the roughfish, especially the carps.

Were do you see year round for southern mn? It is all state wide regulations. I have not seen bow fishing separately regulated in zones except for the metro restrictions due to the discharge of firearms restriction. They need to exempt bows for fishing on that.

Also if they wanted to they could. They don't really need proof. Your in possession. That is all that matters. That is why the made the rule on walleyes in live wells down around here where it is catch and release but open year round. If it is in your possession the reasons don't matter. They most cases won't charge you unless the officer is in a bad mood or you do something stupid to piss them off. Just like with duck hunting. All you need is one blade of grass, deadfall or a turned up lillypad and your legal. Could they run you through the courts on it if you only had that much, yes, is it likely no really unless your dining something else wrong.

It is in the 2013 MN fishing regulations book as bowfishing season isn't open year around up north. Bowfishing season is all year around IF you are below 210 hwy.

They cannot charge you for that as they must provide the evidence that you did illegal or not. I know few cases where the game warden lost so badly in the court where they cannot provide the evidence or don't witness the incident.
