Third time's the charm GOT HIM!!! First ever flathead! Went this morning and got my rods in the water around 7:45. Threw out a chunk of cut bluegill on the smaller reel and a 4" warmouth on the 6500c3.. not 5 minutes later the cutbait starts going off and I got a nice 4lb bowfin. I took a single picture and heard ZZZ - ZZZ - ZZZ my baitclicker on the live bait was going berserk and my rod would have been gone if it wasn't turned on. I cranked down hard and the fish took off. It was NOT happy. I had to work the fish out of a small corner between a bunch of rocks and even with my drag cranked down pretty tight it was screaming line like it was nothing. I had to use my thumb to try to slow the beast down and in turn I now have a huge blister to remind me of my catch.. Once I stopped him at my own expense I was able to start getting a few cranks in and finally after a few minutes I got him out of his corner without getting cutoff. From there it was just a matter of tiring him out, he was zinging drag all over the place but I knew as long as the hook held I had him. I got him within site got really excited turned to grab the net and realized I never had time to take the bowfin out of it.. So while I had this angry flathead on the line I had to get the bowfin untangled grab the net and land the fish myself. Finally got him though! Heck of a fight!

Caught both of them, but had to let my buddy hold one and get a picture because he's going through a divorce and a child custody battle. He also wasn't careful with getting a fish that was clearly bigger than both of these. Had a few others that were plus or minus 2 lbs. Nothing picture worthy

Thanks dreams, I fully understand while you guys target em now.. heck of a fight in close quarters in those rapids, definitely more like battling a saltwater fish than fresh.

Im curiouse as to what rigs everyone is using.... Plastic worms, jigs, live worms, etc....

For bass I have been using some jerbaits, spinners, buzzbaits, and topwaters. Dont really use live to much anymore

look at you NC! Nice one! Now you understand their charm. They can be a pain in the rear to target, but they make up for it.

I had an unsuccessful trip this weekend that saw me sitting in the middle of the river (I waded out to a small island with my chair and gear) in rain during a cold front.

Thanks man! hate to hear the cold front got ya... The place I caught him has a limited supply but the chances of catching a beast 30-40lb+ are there and everytime we have a huge rain the fish can get resupplied... Honestly though if I hook one that big I don't think I'll be able to horse him out from those rocks!! That thing beat the breaks off me at just under 15lbs I can't imagine one twice that size!
