They may drink outta the pond but thats about it.

The pond is 3' from a huge window in a high traffic area in my house...that may keep them away?

I have a pond and many many cats in the area, but my dogs keeps them away for the most part but the cats wont give you any problems. You'll be fine, the only chance the cat can get you're fish is if the pond is very shallow.

It's way too shallow for overwintering fish anyway. IMO herons are worse than cats.

I would just bring the subtropical basses into the house instead of take a risky chance of them survive NJ winters in that kind of pond design and possible heater failure.

Stock tank, size depends on how much space you have but as large as possible of course.
