Fx5 good enough for 240 gallon

I got my Fluval FX5s for 250 new and they are awsome but if your going to drop 340 for a FX6 go for the Eheim 2262 they are sweet!!!!!!!!

Through all of my years of fish keeping I have never owned a Eheim but here them mentioned often. Are these overall better than the fluvals? Are they easy to clean with chambers for media, sponges and polishing pads? All that good stuff??

I will look into the ehiem 2262, I have a 125 gallon right now and im running two ehiem 2217 one with chemi-pure and my tank is always crystal clear.

I run a Ehiem 2217 and two AC50s on a 40B tank I am a over filter slut!

I will look into the ehiem 2262, I have a 125 gallon right now and im running two ehiem 2217 one with chemi-pure and my tank is always crystal clear.

If your tank is drilled I would just spend the money on a big sump (used tank on craigslist) with filter socks and bio media and a solid pump!

I see your point and I have thought about that but honestly I just can not get the water quality that I want with just a sump only. I have tried the media socks, the filter media, the finer foam media for more of a polishing approach but the water is just not clear and crystal like I want. I do plan to use the wet/dry that I used with my 75 for the pre-drilled part of the tank but I want a good canister filter as well if not 2 to get that perfect water appearance. The wet/dry is way to small for a 280 and I may build a bigger one later but there is something about those canister filters that really fine tunes the water as well as circulation using spray bars and such.

For what it's worth. I like using canister filters because they can hold a lot of media to maintain lots of BB. And using HOB filters for basically extra mechanical filtration. So on my tanks I like to have at least one canister & one HOB.

I can mechanically filter down to 50 microns, 100% switch out dirty mechanical media in five minutes, have pounds and pounds of bio media, and hide all my other equipment like my heater and UV. I have plenty of canisters on other tanks but my sump on that system runs circles around them.

I would really like to see how you have your sump setup. Any way that I could see how it works and all that good stuff? If it performs as well as you say then that for sure sounds like a option for my 280 and heck of a lot cheaper than buying 2 FX5's.

How I have my sumps set up. To the tee. I prefer it over canisters. I do have several canisters on other tanks. But they ain't got nothing on my sumps.
