450 gallon disappointment lol

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
There's teflon tape up the wazoo on there already. I guess I could try putting so much that it's nearly impossible to screw on...?

Hope you leveled that tank perfect, with your luck, a seams gonna give with the tank being un level! Can't wait to see it running. Where's the builder, shouldn't he come and repair the silicon leaks? If I was in your shoes I would have smashed it and started over! At least have it taken apart and re built on the stand.

I would screw the couplings down tight and buy a new piece of tubing the right size. I think it will be hard to seal the leaks if it isn't threaded down tight.

Sounds like the issue. Remove all the old stuff start over from new. My advice when putting on thread tape put a couple layers at the starting end then built it up to the other end so as your screw the fitting on it gets tighter because of the thicker buid up of tape. Also make sure the fittings are not cracked. Its best anytime you get something used to re do all the thread tape and make sure all the fittings are good. I use the heavy duty thread tape from lowes its pink but sure works great.

The tank is off by maybe 1/8" now that it's full. It's pretty level. I"m quite happy with that. The builder is nearby. He's an all cash, down to business, money or gtfo type of guy. He does good work but he's pretty unreliable. Nothing would be done for free that's for sure.

The problem with the tubing is that it's extremely stiff in the short amount that I need. It's ALMOST a pipe, basically. I had to cut it down a bit to make it fit into the area I need, and then when I thread it, it "shrinks" if you catch my drift.

I created this return system myself, minus the holes in the overflow... Those were there already. Everything is new. I will try re-teflon taping everything but I feel I might need to think of an entirely new system to help solve the main problem - the hose being too short... because it has to be that short to wedge in there.

If you need some ideas here is what mine looks like. One up pipe then split it to a t or Y whatever you want for differnt jets

I wouldn't worry about a tiny leak inside the overflow. So what it leaks where's the water going? in the tank! why worry yourself so much over this..

This is very important since it's leaking without the pump running. More pressure = spraying = wet floor and surrounding area. It's also bad that since it leaks without the pump on, water from my tank goes down the overflow even when the water is below the overflow level. This will eventually cause a flood if the power were to stay off long enough.

I may just end up sealing the overflow return holes if I can't get it to work without leaking. Our setups are a bit different but I appreciate the pics. My hose from the pump comes up from behind my tank, not through the bottom or back of the tank.

It's difficult to explain the problem without showing someone first hand. The difficulty lies in the fact that there are 2 return holes drilled already, with a set distance between them. This makes connecting the two holes with a piece of straight pipe/hose with a tee very difficult given how small the space is to do so.
