The 26 year old fighter was on the final two pounds of his cut to 125 before reports indicate he passed out in a sauna. “Feijão” was not responding to any attempts at revival and was pronounced dead on the scene.

26 is so young and he was training with Aldo and Barao at Nova União. Cutting 5-10lbs isn't so bad, but some of these guys are cutting 20lbs+ (it doesn't say in the article how much he cut, but I'd guess it was a lot). Pretty sad that people think it's necessary to compete. Hopefully this opens a few eyes and more people start fighting at their natural weights.

There is a definite science to weight cutting and training. There was a report about how JDS almost died from over training and as an explanation as to why he did so bad against Cain. I'll find it and post it later.

at first I thought it was Rafael Feijao Cavalcante. either way, that's sad

yushin okami got released by the UFC. For being probably the best middle weight from japan I was surprised to hear this

What's his W/L record in UFC?

13-5

been with ufc since 2006

dana says that he's become somewhat of a gate keeper and has always been a tough fighter but always loses significant fights and with new guys coming in someone has to go

kind of lame because there are so many more fighters that are less relevant with worst records and have less chance of going anywhere near top ten or title contention

I think it keeps people on their toes. How many fighters probably went, "whoa, they cut okami! I better work on my striking!"

but again there are worst ones still on the roster

I can see it kind of since he makes way more than other ones but then look at Hector Lombard. dude is making bank and has been a huge disappointment. hector's fighting nate marquardt next and I don't see him beating nate besides a lucky hay maker

then there's chris leben. Okami made 42K to show, and 42K to win. Leben makes 51K to show, and has lost 3 fights in a row, and 4 out of his last 5. He gets another fight, while Okami has won 3 of his last 4 fights, beating solid fighters like Lombard and Belcher, and one loss to a beast like Jacare means you are cut (SMH). on top of that, chris leben has failed drug tests before, I think at least 2 times

the cut and his excuse makes no sense

All of the people you mentioned swing for the fences. Dana loves brawlers. More specifically he loves exciting fighters. When u are watching leben or Lombard fight, and they have lost 2 strait rounds and are loosing round 3 with 2 mins left, there is still a chance both will finish in dramatic fashion. IMO if you dominate Okami for the 1st 2 rounds the fight is over...
Okami either wins or looses, but you never remember the fights. And I think that is the problem. I have crazy respect for the guy and I think Dana does too. Like I said, this move has crazy shock value and is a push to make everyone a Joe Loason clone. Exciting fighters get paid, boring fighters(win or lose) get cut...

Okami will be a champ in whichever organization he chooses. They definitely should have kept him, he's one of the few Japanese stars that they had. He was kind of the MW John Fitch, so I understand what EBSB is saying.

Anybody watch Glory 10 last night? It was a pretty good show. Unfortunately, Jerome Lebanner got injured and they couldn't find a replacement to fight Kharitonov. I was really looking forward to that fight.
