Two year old mauled to death by five pitbull mixes

Leaving an infant alone with any large animal is neglect, much like a hot oven or a bunch of knives.

He was at the foot of the bed when she was born and protected her like his own. Still wouldn't leave them unattended.

I completely agree. Even when my pit was sick and dying my son didn't want to leave her side but I still didn't trust them alone.

Its always a sad thing when something like this happens, but based on where they were and the fact he had 5 pit bull mixes i highly doubt he wasnt fighting them. they obviously wouldnt admit it, and even if the police asked they could say any scars were from fighting amongst themselves. I never blame the dog if its the owners fault it instigated a pack mentality by keeping 5 of them in the first place haha. thats a recipe for trouble.

Im just curious, how many dogs does one need to have before it can be construed that they are fighting them?

Its not just the amount, its the type of dog, the area where they live, lack of more details, it also seems like it was an attack on a "beat up" dog. Like they use to train dogs for fighting. I'd like to see pictures of the dogs, but there was no mention of them breeding them or anything. Most pit bulls, if raised properly, will be very protective of young ones. I've seen it in every pit any of my family members has had. Then when I go hang out with buddies in the city there are people who won't let them near their kids because they know they were raised just to be mean, or to fight. Its a fact of life this still happens.

It just seems like a bit of an unfair statement. It could well be true, don't get me wrong, but to assume based on number type and location seems a little unfair. I have 2 Staffordshire bull terriers, which were bred for fighting, If I could afford it and it was practical, I'd have more. I also don't live in the best of areas. It doesn't mean there is anything nefarious going on. My 2 dogs are lovely, but I'd never leave them unattended with young kids. To me that's just foolhardy.

Any dog bred from a fighting line shouldnt be trusted w/ children. Or hunting line. If its from a breeder who breeds companions you shouldnt have to worry about leaving a couple staff terriers with them kids. They could be rescues for all we know like your dogs are, I'm not saying the people themselves were fighting them but if there's a big group of pits like that in LA and something like this happens, at least a few of them were more then likely used in fighting. My aunt has seen dumpsters full of pits in LA
