fancy goldfish tankmates.

Depends on what kind of fancy goldfish, they can be single tailed (Nymph and Tamasba) or slender bodied double tailed goldfish (Jikin and Wakin). Comet & Common goldfish ain't fancy types.

Sorry, I'm not sure what you mean? OP said moors and other fancy types, where did the comet's and commons come from? I was just saying that with fancies, in this case moors and their ilk, lots of flow wasn't a good idea.

Ive kept Ozark madtoms and Stonecats and neither were tail of fin nippers.....(of course I never saw the Ozark madtom...he only came out to feed at night until he got eaten), why would luxilus shiners of the same size as fancy goldfish make bad tank mates? Your right about Creek chubs and Fallfish, But wouldn't some of the less aggressive 3-5 inch chubs make good tankmates? If not,... why?
I've kept tadpole madtoms, slender madtoms and stonecats and all goldfish's fins were ripped and trimmed when I housed them with the madtoms.

Shiners and chubs make poor tankmates for FANCY goldfish...the fancy goldfish will get outcompeted by the speedy shiners and greedy chubs when it comes to feeding time. Chubs and shiners make good tankmates for common/comet/shubunkin goldfish tho.

That mean not all fancy goldfish are fat and wobbling...it's all depends on what kind of strain of fancy goldfish are.

The goldfish I kept was a 5 inch common with the 5 inch stonecat, so your probably right that a stonecat would think a fancies tail was some type of snack; and I can see how the speed of shiners and Chubs would make them better competitors at feeding time, but that also depends on what your feeding the goldfish, I fed my common Koi pond pellets when he got over 4 inches after I had fed the Green Sunfish and stonecat which were smaller than him at the time.

Ah that's why you got a common goldfish, not a fancy goldfish. And depends on what type of the fancy goldfish, such as telescope, bubble-eyes, lionheads, ranchu and celestial goldfish will get outcompeted easier by the shiners and chubs.

My coldwater dojo loaches are 8 years (speckled one) and the 2 goldens are 5 years old. Awesome fish!

Lol I know. Thats why I said 'fat wobbly fancies', not just 'fancies'. OP mentioned wanting a black moor, which is fat and wobbly, so you need to take that into account when deciding flow.

I have my fancys with spiny eals. and male bristle nose plecos. Fancys prefer it a bit warmer then single tailed goldfish. My singles are held at a low of 70. I know they can go lower but then you can get digestion issues. Fancys get to a 12" body so a 75 cannot hold more then about 3 or 4 when grown. I have 4 in mine with the eals. My 125 with large goldies has Dojos(weatherloaches) and barbatus I put them in there when large enough. I have had goldies get smaller corys stuck in their mouths and do damage requiring surgery.

No actually that common was just a feeder fish for my greens that I threw in with some rosy reds....he somehow survived until my biggest Green went postal.

Marbled hoplo catfish do well and are crazy active all the time. Mine eat from the top all the time.
