New baby... Short Body RTC

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Are you serious with that signature?

And as far as cost of fish being kept a secret...I think it's a respect thing. Lord knows I'm grateful Jay got it instead of me. It wasn't cheap and my wallet thanks you.

Sorry, still don't get it. Respect for what? Or to whom?

Ive never understood it either but ive seen far too many arguments over to or not to reveal the price turn ugly. Im just going to respect that he doesn't want to tell us YET.

Now someone pin point where he got it from so we can skip the middle man. Im ok with learning full retail. I dont care too much about the deal he got

im trying to figure out the cost so I can triple it and see how much it would cost here :irked:

The tank discuession is derailing the thread. It is not related to the discuession of the OPs fish. Start a thread if you need info on the cost of setting up and operational costs of a 1000 gallon tank in the UK. This is not the thread for it. I don't expect to have to come back to this again.

Hopefully there won't be an argument. Im just trying to understand the mentality behind it. Of course, if he told the wife it cost X, but in fact it cost X plus mortgage payment I could totally understand lol. I'm done now anyways, he don't wanna tell, so be it.

I understand your frustration, let's just say I did not pay full retail for it, a friend of mine found it for me that does not usually import this type of stuff.

Ballin,

I wish I could tell you where to get one or there were more available, I am the first to tell people when cool stuff is available, but this one was a one shot deal. Sorry.

Guys if you are wondering as to WHERE to get one here are a few options. 1.) get in contact with a Malaysian vendor maybe through your LFS vendor list. They seem to have many short bodies out that way. OPTION 2.) i have seen 1 short body RTC on aquabid going for $750 but when buying online you gotta watch out. (Especially at that price LOL!) and keep in mind that LOTS of RTC have deformities that may make them LOOK short body but unless it is a "Proven" fish i would not trust it. OPTION 3.) if you have a LFS that has TONS of baby RTC look through them to see if any of them show signs of SB characteristics. And if one does buy it. Grow it out until you can tell if more charactaristics are coming in. That 3rd option i would not recommend though because you will 9/10 times end up with a normal RTC then you will have a dish you can not house. And ALSO keep in mind even if it "ONLY" grows to 20"... Well, my old 16" RTC took down a 12" oscar so a 20" short body still IS a RTC and RTCs WILL eat everything you put them with. A 20" RTC can take down 90% of fish in this hobby. The ONLY advantages you get is a smaller adult tank size (which will STILL be at LEAST 1,000 gallons) AND some people might find it to be "cute" because it looks weird... And honestly if I was going to put all that dedication into getting an RTC anyways, why not just put in a bit more effort to get a real full size RTC. Sure u will not have to spend as much TIME cating for a short body but it makes up for that in the time it actually takes to FIND ONE LOL! Don't get me wrong short body rtcs are really cool and all and if i could just walk right into any fishstore and get one for a good price i would in a heartbeat but i honestly just do not see taking all the time to find one and spending tons of money. Well... That is my opinion guys.

sorry for confusion, I meant cost of the cat, not the tank.

Thanks for the assist on the how, but I have to disagree on the 1000 gallon plus for a 20 inch rtc.
