We can leave that play alone, have we not routinely seen receivers called down on similar contact though? That's all I really care about lol.

Yes. I thought the same thing when i saw it happen. I actually went outside for a snoke i assumed the opposite of the outcome. For once in that game a huge call went SF's way so I opted to leave my jaded opinion out of it.

The ball rolled out of the end zone without control by any player therefore it is a touch back, just like on a kick off. The ball then was placed on the twenty and San Fran ball, the int is still on the books
I can get how it went to the 20 but I don't understand how it went to SF after the saints had clear possession of the ball. So are you saying if it magically bounced the other way 99 yards in the other end zone the saints would have retain it on their 20?

nope, that would be a safety.

No I don't think that's how it happens. I think the defensive runner who loses possession through the end zone is a turnover, on the turn over, and change of possession, at the 20, similar to a kick or punt . If the offensive team loses it out of their end zone it's a safety.

For further help I looked up touchback in Wiki:

In American football, a touchback is a ruling which is made and signaled by an official when the ball becomes dead on or behind a team's own goal line (i.e., in an end zone) and the opposing team gave the ball the momentum, or impetus, to travel over or across the goal line.[1] Such impetus may be imparted by a kick, pass, fumble, or in certain instances by batting the ball. A touchback is not a play, but a result of events that may occur during a play.
I now see how it is connected to touchback

Were these replacement refs that snuck in this weekend? You can't hit/touch the receiver until its been tipped. Even if gronk was unable to catch it he may have forced a bobble and who knows how that ends.

Way to go zebras

Supposedly refs got it right, but if that's true that's a very poorly written rule.

It doesn't matter if it would have stuck or not. They were out of time. (Ref): Pats ball on the 1 yardline with no time left. Winner is still the Panthers.
