When I first started keeping cichlids I went through 3-4 oscars and frontosa of various sizes before deciding there was no way they would work with my old stock. A few years ago I also bought 4 small dovii that wound up being 2 males and 2 females. When the dominant male started showing more interest in one of the females, I gave the other 2 to my friend to raise. Unfortunately my female randomly died a year later while I was on vacation, and the male I gave my friend got killed by his jag, so I traded him the other female back for a freddy. My old male instantly paired up with her and they spawned multiple times, until my male flowerhorn broke down a divider a few years later and killed the female dovii. I actually haven't tried pairing anything up since then.
