I've bought and sold dorados and emperor cichlids a few times. Tremendously fast growing fish that I love but once they reach 16-17" they always seem to cause problems for me so I sell or give them away.

Mostly aros, pbass, and silver dollars

They usually get eaten though so im always replacing them. Just lost a 12" kelberi the other day to a prego ray

Amazing story. My oscar got beat up by a rose queen so I healed him up in a hospital tank. Once he was better I gave him to an friend who had a lot of fish so I thought he would be well taken care of. A week later I was going through the local LFS and saw my oscar sitting in a tank all scarred up! I thought this is a sign and I have to do right by this poor fish. So I gave up my rose queen, took my oscar back, and built a 110 around him. Still have him and he's doing amazing

When I first started keeping cichlids I went through 3-4 oscars and frontosa of various sizes before deciding there was no way they would work with my old stock. A few years ago I also bought 4 small dovii that wound up being 2 males and 2 females. When the dominant male started showing more interest in one of the females, I gave the other 2 to my friend to raise. Unfortunately my female randomly died a year later while I was on vacation, and the male I gave my friend got killed by his jag, so I traded him the other female back for a freddy. My old male instantly paired up with her and they spawned multiple times, until my male flowerhorn broke down a divider a few years later and killed the female dovii. I actually haven't tried pairing anything up since then.

iv had about 5 red devils, traded my dovii then got him back with the same trade and some additional cash nad countless of plecos. jags too, setup always works until one fish flips out.

Not the exact same fish, but the same type many times. Its like a never ending cycle I guess... grow them, sell them, grow them again.

Thanks I think you steered people in the right direction! :headbang2

I was referring to buying back the same type and not referring to buying back the exact fish.
