Hello Everyone,

I need your input.

I have a new 180 coming my way soon and I need to choose a filter. Please let me know if you think either filters will work solo in the 180.

1. FX6: Now only 43 watts. 339.99

2. Eheim Pro 3 1200XL: 349.99

I know the FX6 puts out more gph but the Eheim is compelling when the same price. I have a spare REna XP3 I can supplement with. Please let me know if either will be sufficient alone. If so, which one should i get?

Stock will be a group of P. Melanurum and a group of C. Spilurus. Maybe a third species like Salvini's down the road.

I read all the post i can and it still isn't definitive.

THANKS EVERYONE!!!

ANother option that may do it alone.... eheim 2262

I never used eheim but my for works great. I just add aquaclear 110 for surface agitation.

Thats way too expensive. But thanks for the suggestion. Looks like $500.

I favor wet dry sump filters for tanks that big. When the bacteria are wet but also have contact with air it allows them to work more effectively. Plus they are easy to clean. And you can make them if you choose. The most expensive part will be the pump

I have a 210g that is not super heavily stocked and I run two FX5's and to me I think it is just adequate, I feel like I still need more filtration/turnover at times. I really dont think a single FX6 is enough. As suggested I would add an AC110 or just run two FX6 on that 180g.

What size sump should i put in if i go that route? I have a 90 gallon that will be empty once this tank comes in but i doubt itll fit due to height.

Petsmart US had the 2262 on for less than $300 awhile back and even used they are still a good filter. I have both an fx6 and a 2262 on a 180g (and a 110). Paid 175 on boxing day for the fx6 and 325 for the 2262 used but with media. I can't say how effective they are because I started them for the first time about 2 hours ago and no fish in the tank! Very pleased with both of them though, very quiet, the ac110 is the loudest filter on the tank by far, the fx6 would be 2nd loudest and the 2262 is damn silent.
There is virtually nothing to go wrong with the 2262, it is so simple, I can see where the fanboys come from, this is my first eheim and impressed so far.
