Dont wanna be mean, but to be honest, fwp doesnt know what he's talking about. If you wanna be a purist, the 2 different variants mixed are no longer OriGiNaL. Thats how some hardcore purists see and value their fish hence the wc and location talk.

Wow! Here you go again Troy being a true winner and completely miss understanding the conversation. Not once in any of my rebuttals did I say crossing one location with another was to be considered a pure location. It's quiet obvious if you combine fish A and fish B you now have AB not A or B anymore. What I am stating is that there is a bigger difference crossing a nic dovii with a Costa Rican dovii in relation to crossing a rio mag with a location x. There are several different profiles and looks that the rio mags have displayed from import to import. I thought it was quiet obvious to see the differences in them. But it sounds to me like everyone is turning a blind eye and a deaf ear to reality. So that's fine with me. At least I'm not crossing locations and distributing them mislabeled. I make sure every magx is labeled so the hobbiest knows. Because if I was truly against the hobby I could have not labeled any of them and I guarantee none of you would have known the difference!! But I didn't I have been working on a project with umbee king for few years now and the magx is the only combination of the project that has been allowed in the hobby. Our final result will be labeled as well. That is just once small piece of our umbee pie. I for one will keep, breed, and sell pure strains of the other locations and continue to properly label them also. So mud or no mud, everyone will still have the opportunity to keep pure strain other than rio mags.

Fair enough there will always be a demand for stuff like that no matter what purists think. Let's just all cross our fingers and hope there never comes a time when true local pure strains are easily obtainable.

I was saying that I don't agree with crossing them but everything in a free market is based off of supply and demand. There are people who obviously want the mag x line no matter what the re provisions for the future may be. And it's easy to get pure and even wild caught Rio Mags and others, but what happens if the Colombian border gets shut? And all trade with the USA comes to a halt? It happens and has happened. And what if it stays shut for years on end. My guess is any umbee people can get their hands on and get to breed, they will. And informed people who know what a mess that can become will label them as " umbees". But what about the greedy people who look at everything as dollar signs? Who see that pure Rio Mag, Lake Guatape, Rio playas, ect. Umbees bring top dollar. What will they label them as. My guess is they will be labeled whatever brings top dollar. No matter what they are.

Ahh gotcha.... your last comment made it seem otherwise a little in regards to pure umbee strains availability in the hobby. Colombia closing it's international trade to the US would really suck and yes it would affect not just umbee lines I'd imagen.

As far as turning a profit from cross breeding projects and newer TB lines... It's nothing new and it's something that happens very often and not just with fish. I think ppl will pay a high price for high quality no matter what, and there's nothing wrong with that. Some ppl will pay a high price for pure blood no matter what, and there's nothing wrong with that either. As long as we're all being responsible and avoid any mislabeling garbage I don't really see a problem here personally. So both the purist and the higher-quality seekers will have the best of both worlds available.

lets stick to what the OP asked and leave it at that without any personal attacks. We're all hobbyist and have our own inclinations. Purist will be purist...some stricter than others....and even if its for their own personal edification...so lets leave it at that.

All the umbee's look awesome if you ask me and as long as people dont pass on a fish as a specific type locality when in fact they're not, all is good. to each their own.
