Umbee

The magnum x line does look great. However, I would personally never own them. Just as I'd never own a Costa Rican x Nicaraguan dovii. There isn't anything truly wrong with crossing locals, but I don't like the possible consequences to the market and hobby once those bloodlines reach less responsible or unknowledgable keepers. I don't find it any different than crossing Gorrilus with non Gorrilus. I don't look down on those who do but I don't personally condone it. Not when the locals are so distinct and very clearly segregated and pure in the market. Just opens the door for more muddying down the road.

There is no difference in crossing one Colombian location with another Colombian location, do you know how many different collection points nicaruaguan dovii are collected from?? I bet not, and the collection points aren't usually mentioned either. They're just referred to as a nic dovii. I can see the point in not wanting to breed a nic dovii to a Costa Rican dovii but not a nic to a nic right? No difference in a Colombia blue umbee to another Colombia blue umbee! There's no foundation for an argument there bro, just a matter of politics and opinion. I do personally think that breeding a gorillus to a Colombian blue is to be considered a hybrid umbee , which I agree should be dealt with responsibly when passed thru the hobby. Do you have any idea how many collecting points are on the rio Magdelana?? More than a couple which each point yields different looks, structures, freckles etc. so what's the big deal breeding a mag with another umbee a few miles away???

It most certainly is different, no matter how badly you want it not to be. Fish don't distinguish country boundaries, but river boundaries they do. I could care less what country a fish comes from, I want to know the body of water. And yes even with dovii if I were to breed and distribute them I would probably go for the Lake Arenal bloodline. Mostly for no other reason than it's a spires I can readily get and be quite certain they come from the same body of water. We have to think about the conservation of the species, one day they may not be available to us. Countries shut their borders all the time, I want to be sure if it happens I can get the closest thing to the river as possible. Maybe you don't care. Not everyone needs to. But I will sure be glad to know that I'm not taking part in the possible muddying of the waters that plagues our hobby.

Also it's not just a few miles away, it's nearly half way across the country. And Columbia is a big country.

^^^ really?? Lol come on dude. You have no proof that your umbees even came from the rio mag. You only know what your told. Hell for all anyone knows, these umbees were spawned and raised in Europe or Asia in ponds and sold to the US as wild caught rio mags lol at least I know exactly where my lines come from:) imported and vendors can say what they want but I personally know the guy who collected some of my umbees and there's videos to prove the collection. Not one vendor or importer has 100% proof of exact location, just a piece of paper saying where it was shipped from. I'm no idiot and I know your not either! I'm not out to get any vendor either. So without 100% undeniable proof, who's to say you actually have rio mags? If you've been in the hobby on the forums long enough and followed the umbee trail, then you might remember when umbees were referred to as Colombian blues. Wasn't for some time that a mention of rio mag umbee.. And the majority of umbees that came from Colombia were collected from wherever it was easy to collect from and thrown into ponds or holding tanks till sold.. People can think what they want about "mudding" the hobby lol but I will be collecting umbees from multiple locations with my good friend Umbeeking and will continue to offer new locations and high quality umbees:) and will make documentaries proving the umbees being collected from Colombia, not picking up boxes at an airport from said location

Lol, excellent retort my friend. When you have no ground to stand on fall back on the " well you didn't pull it out of the water yourself so you don't know where it came from." As I said I hope that the borders stay open and there never is a reason why we need to just rely on ourselves to keep the lines straight. And as far as you and Chris going to Columbia is concerned, that's absolutely a great idea. I'm glad that you have that opportunity. It only adds to the hobby. I have no problem with any of the umbees Chris has brought back, I wish I had the space to keep them all. But I don't. Therefore, I keep the local, and more importantly, the individual fish I've owned that I like the best. I have no problem with other lines, just the crossing of other locations and then distributing them. Cross them all you want and keep the best one for yourself, that I have no problem with. But some people simply aren't as responsible about knowing what they have as you Jason. Nobody can tell you not to do it, but even you know that the repercussions CAN hypothetically be damaging to our hobby and umbees in general. I just don't have a clear conscience about it, if you do then by all means keep on keepin on. A better idea is keeping locals straight to the best of out ability and not Knowingly crossing them and when you do go to Columbia bring back some more kick ass umbees and add some more of these majestic monsters to our collections!

Dont wanna be mean, but to be honest, fwp doesnt know what he's talking about. If you wanna be a purist, the 2 different variants mixed are no longer OriGiNaL. Thats how some hardcore purists see and value their fish hence the wc and location talk.

It's fine ppl do what they wanna do, but dont try to bull****tttt too much putting down another to lift yourself. We are not all stupid here. Maybe just only me

I know exactly what your saying. I guess if in the far future people crossed them to the point were they ruined both it would just make a wild pure one that much more distinct and sought after. its like dogs people have 100 pound pitbulls but god knows they mixed other breeds to make em that big ya know.
