Oh sure if he doesn't want to get them from a vendor. Most people don't want to bother with that though. Heck I'd put my Rio Mag line up against any other. Rio mag or otherwise. But if I didn't raise them and was going to order some, Dan would be where I did so.

And I referred to them as Rios because I was driving a tractor when I replied to the thread. Just the easiest way when I was bouncing through the field. And the rio mags are the only line that is commonly designated by its collection location. Nobody really refers to the others as Rio Playas, Lake Guatape, ect... Good to point that out for others that may not know however;)

Would it be possible to grow out a group of Umbees in a 180 and possibly wind up with a pair or should I not bother due to the tank not being big enough?

I would personally grow them out in a smaller tank where it's easier to maintain, like a 75 for example. When growing out umbees IME it's more important to keep the water quality and temps under control as best as you can. Once they start hitting the 6" mark you can start upgrading the tank size, which for a pair a 180 will do just fine for a while. It should also give you more than enough time to get something a little bigger later on,as the size that your umbees will achieve will be largely determined by the level care you will provide them.

As far as which one is better that's ALL based on personal preference and these days there are a lot more blue umbee options to choose from than just Rio Mags and will strongly disagree with stating that one is clearly better than the other.... Here are a few examples for ya' ;)ImageUploadedByMonsterAquariaNetwork1390697753.465698.jpgImageUploadedByMonsterAquariaNetwork1390697772.847848.jpg
