I have a 2.5" albino that's in a 125 gallon with a 6" synodontis featherfin. So far so good. No aggression towards the albino. Hope this helps.
Sorry for the bad cell pics and dirty tank the only way the moke would come out is for food lol. Anyway the moke is in the first pic (the small guy in the corner). The palmas palmas is in the second pic and the senegal is in the third pic.
Yes palmas palmas grow larger than mokelembembeI've read up on the specieses of polypterus, and im just getting more confused.. This thread says that the Palmas Palmas are the smallest.. at only 12 - 13 inches.. But your saying that your Mokelembembe stays smaller than the Palmas Palmas.. So im guessing this guys wrong and the palmas palmas are larger at 14inch and the mokelembe are around 10 - 11 inches.. ? Is that right?
Not much seems to be known about these fish.
In the tank I have right now I don't have any decoration just sand. Thats mainly because I have a lot of polypterus in that tank, because my bigger tank broke. I would suggest sand it's better for polypterus since they are mainly on the substrate the whole time and because they are known to accidentally mistake gravel for food and choke and die. I use black sand in my tank, because black sand is known to get bichirs to have lots of green where as on white sand they wouldn't. If I were you I'd out decorations in there so it can hide because since I have no decorations in my tank all the babies like to hide behind the filter intake and are rarely seen. You can put plants in the tank, but if you intend to get a couple more than just a mokelembembe then I would say don't. Polypterus are notorious for uprooting plants by accident or when they get scared and shoot across the tank. Also unless you have experience with plants I would say no because plants are a whole other world and need difference kinds of needs. You can put them in poly tanks, but there is always that chance the poly will accidentally mess it up. What most people do is get a couple pieces of driftwood, some rocks, and a couple fake plastic plants and arrange them to their liking.Yeh, i think im gonna go with the mokelembembe.. They seem to be the best from what you have told me.
How did you decorate your tank? Do they like rocks, roots? Gravel or sand.. ? Plants?
yeah smaller polys love pvc pipe I just prefer not to use it because it looks un-natural and kinda sticks out in the tank. Other than that I've heard very good things about it.Ok, thanks.. I could imagine theyd enjoy pcp pipes? I have had luck with pcp pipes and catfish before, even tho theyr nothing alike my expirience is that most elongated fish enjoy them.
What do you think? I like the couple of pieces of driftwood, and some rock, maybe some plastic plants.
