I try to stay away from aggressive fish. Most of what I have and like are the community schooling type. I only just acquired the Flagtail and a Sixbar Distichodus. Those along with the tinfoil barb and bala sharks will get pretty big so I don't want to get any more bigger type fish that will over crowd the tank. My girlfriend wants to use the 220 for a planted tank with Discus fish and cardinal tetras.
What is the dimensions of the tank. I read you wanted to build it from one 4x8 sheet of plywood. Were you able to? the bottom and 3 sides all from one sheet.
The idea was to get the most gallons from 4x8 sheets. The bottom frame is a little bit bigger than 4x8 so I can put the sides on the out side of the floor peace. I used 3 sheets of ply wood. The bottom is 4x8. I used a oak 3/4 inch peace of ply wood. The back is 8 ft by 34 inches of 3/4 inch pine. The sides are 4 ft by 34 inches of 3/4 inch pine.
The front glass is sitting on the bottom sheet of wood. It is 8 ft by 32 inches of 1/2 inch tempered glass. The side corners do not overlap vary much. They are kept in place with the metal frame. Other than the connection between glass and pond liner I did not uses any glue. I did not uses any nails. And unlike most of the ply wood tanks that I have seen I am pretty sure 2 people could take the tank apart and put it on a trailer in a couple of hours. And put it back together in a couple of hours some ware else.
At the moment I am looking for Redtail hemiodus. I ordered 7 from a person on Ebay but he only shipped 6 and one was DOA. and 2 of them died the next day. One got someting nasty growing on it and it died. the last 2 are not looking vary good. I am treating them. If any one knows ware I can get some Hemiodus gracilis on the East coast that would help a lot.
Well I gave up on the idea of having the bucktooth tetra in the tank with every one else. So I am working on setting up the 220 g tank with some live plants in the center of the tank and putting the bucktooth tetra in it. One of them jumped out so I am down to 7 now. The plan is to try to breed them to increase the numbers. I will be setting up the 40 g tank as a breeder tank and using the 65 g tank to make and water softer wormer water to promote breeding. I have googled breeding bucktooth tetra but if any has any pointers to help me start breeding that would be nice.
