What Camera Do You Use For Aquarium Pics?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
We use a Sigma 70mm F/2.8 EX DG Macro Lens with a Canon DSLR. Pics below are approx one week old free swimming fry.

This is awesome. I'm going to have to get my hands on something other than my phones camera.

A five year old Canon Power Shot SD900 point-and-shoot. Can't do extreme closeups as with a macro, extension tubes or close up lenses but it still does a pretty good job. I never use my flash ..just aquarium lighting. I got rid of my Nikon SLR system a few years back ... wish I had kept it now. Oh well.

I never use flash either......6fps helps a ton. I probably take 400 pics and 12 are keepers lol

Portrait mode is easiest for me. I leave tank lights on, and sometimes use the sun light. Below is a sun shot, with normal flash on.

Full tank shots are the most difficult for me because of reflection, unless all lights are out, because the aisles in my fishroom don't offer much space anyway.
But algae is my biggest problem, (most of my ruined shots as due to algae on the glass) as I'm a little lazy with the razor blade.
So on my t3i i just go to portrait mode and shoot the fish? Do i shoot with lights out?

Since we dont have the money for a high end camera yet i use a water proof olyimpus camera i put it inside the tank with no flash and just the tank lights hold still for a minute or two till the fish calm down and snap pics. you get some interesting pics that way. when i get a chance i will upload some.

^ true, nothing beats the clarity of dropping a waterproof camera into a tank for photos...

If you do not have a painted back of the tank and you can see all walls in the tank it is horrible... (At least with a gopro... But a high end canon DSLR with waterproof housing would be the bomb.com!

Care to post a picture or two? I'd love to see what type of pics you can get from inside!
