If you blow up this photo, you can see that I've dotted all of the dorsal rays. I hope that I didn't miss any. I counted 48, which would make me think C. Argus. I'm very interested to see how this progresses.
If you figure out what it is let me know, I may just get a few myself if i knew for sure they were argus. Ironically the argus are legal to import , but the tropical Striata is the one channa species that's regulated in canada lol

If you go to You and search for " sp platinum " vids You see a couple of them Devon. I acnnot say that mineis any different from any of one of those ( one vid describes a platinum Argus...)
They may have more or less black subcutaneous dots, but I really cannot tell any difference from this guy.
Only so called distintive trait would be, if it happens, the orange/ yello tail and finnage as it matures, they say....( won't bet on that though )
Chinese name is 白甲乌鳢, or 白乌鱼.
I dont speak chinese but from what i can gather through google translate in english to argus var. Kimnra HAs been farmed in china for over a decade now. It is in fact Argus. I cannot believe in this day and age wholesalers can get fish like this on the market and pawn it as rare! Apparently it commonly comes with yellow , grey black or white fins.
I plan to get a few now that i know they are argua, but i dont think i'll jump on this batch that is currently floating around, I want black fins, and i suspect the price might drop a bit because i doubt i'm the only one who managed to track this down!
Looks like i have a new summer project, forget koi I want a Black fin platinum pond!
