Anyone here have a Native American Indian Dog (or something related) or know anyone

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I really want a NAID some point in my life, but they seem few and far between. I'd love to see who has them and know who breeds and sells them (as in where are people getting them from).

Good luck man! They're pretty hard to find. I think finding 1 is almost as rare as finding a New Guinea singing dog. I really want 1 of those!

I have 2 REZ (reservation) dogs. Rescued from the Navajo nation in AZ.

You can adopt dogs from the reserves easily here, they have a lot of excess puppies.

Do you mean a specific breed of dog... cause as far as I know most of the reserve dogs are mutts

Just saw someone already post exact same thing

Crazy, you DO learn something new every day!! I saw this thread when it started, and I didn't have a clue as to what you were talking about HH, and Im NAVAJO!! I sat out making a comment, cause I thought it was a set up for a derogatory joke, woops :/
Anywho, being born on the Navajo reservation and having alot family still there, I've had my experience with NAID, but we only knew them as "Rez dogs" I didn't think anything was really special about them, that couldn't be seen in other dogs. It was cool our dogs understood Navajo, and would herd sheep at a single command, but I knew dogs did this all over the world. Now I see it's actually a breed, and my mom currently has two?!?? lol, I wonder if they get a CDIB like me :D

CDIB? Idk what that is.

And hrmmm, I'm wondering now if the NAID is the same as the Rez dogs. From my understanding the NAIDis a recreation or attempt at recreating an older dog breed.

What's that singing dog btw? Sounds interesting lol

We actually had DNA tests done on our REZ dogs. One is a Chow/Lab mix and the other is a Border Collie/Lab mix, so not actually NAIDs.

This is just it, everybody is DIRT POOR, nobody EVER discusses breed, all that mattered is the dog didn't freeze during the winter, and the dog was free. Obviously I can't speak for everyone, but the whole idea of Indins breeding purebred dogs is kinda funny
to me.
CDIB= Certificate of Degree of Indian Blood. It's an official US document that
declares someone has a specific degree of American Indian blood.
