Fishing Season 2k15!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Never caught a pike in my life, none of my fishing buddies target them and every time I've tried I've never got one, which has been about 6-10 occasions. Any tips would be welcome though as I'd love to catch one!

Well anyways, if you go out and try and catch some pike, be sure to post how it goes. If you catch and release, dont use bogagrip or weigh in the gills, weigh in a net or weighingsling. You can also do gillgrip for landing, but if you have never caught pike before, might be kinda hard

Saw some fish rising but no bites. Water is about 2-3' above average and raging fast.

Lol, no. Freshly stocked trout. I've only ever heard of one account of catching an Esox (a small muskellunge) in this creek. Next local fish club meeting though I'm going to see if I can get the president (a big pike fisherman) so allow me to go on one of his trips with him and some other members as he knows the best spots around me.

Looking like a good weekend for fishing. Upper 40s and mostly sunny for Saturday and lower 40s with all sun for Sunday. Going to try the local creek, lake, and river and try to get some natives collecting in in between them. For those of you pike experts, tomorrow I'll probably head down to where the mouth of my local creek feeds into the lower allegheny river. The closest lock to there that has a temp gauge available to the public is reading 35-36 F (1.5-1.75 C) as of right now. Will pike be biting in such cold water since I'll be shore fishing? If so, bait kind of tactics, rigs, bait, etc should I use?

Pike will be biting, some people have good luck in such weather, personally i havent fished much in that kind of weather, because it didnt get that cold here in the danish winter this year, and when it was i wasnt out. You can catch dude, but you wanna fish slow, good size grubs, if you have some big flyes, you can put a little let on them and spin/twitch them slowly. If your up for livebaiting thats good too. What rod are you using, and do you have any softbaits, or stuff you can fish slow?
One of the biggest problems for me when its very cold, fishing from the shore is keeping focus, usually i end up either standing one place, or just moving and not really fishing haha.

I've got some big top water and diving lures and I also have a good but of large flies that I tie myself. I can tie an even bigger one now and just put tons of lead on it for weight.

I'm impressed you tie your own flies man! That's cool, something I still haven't learned. I'd suggest a steel or durable leader. I've lost northerns from their teeth raking the line. They like anything shiny, spinner baits, rapalas, spoons, swim baits. Lindy rig with suckers and shiners when trolling. Texas rigs work too. They're not too picky
